Impact

This image has a combination of sketchy effect and accurate details that make it quite impressive to behold. The contrast between then absence detail in the background and the intense details of the figure draw the viewer into the picture making them want to know more about the depicted figure. Soft and hard lines are working together in abundance and this gives the image a nice flowing pattern. The monotone colours seem to make the image serious and concentrated. The designs of the clothing are very unique though one can recognize some of it from other cultures, but used here in a different way. Excellent!

Looks better than the old version for sure.
But you're still doing that metallic rendering. You need to start focusing on materials.
Everything looks metallic because you're using too much blacks and whites. Whites and blacks are the last things you should put in the painting. Save them until the end for best result.

It looks metallic since there's too much contrast, black and whites and it lacks middletones. It's almost black and white too which also adds to the metal.

I know I've mentioned this a bunch of times already but I'm doing that because it's a major thing in your work that needs improving. I'm not trying to bring you down. Most your stuff has got the potencial of being really good but you need to start studying of materials and nail that stuff. Do more still life studies and photostudies and really focus on this fault. Be critical.

You do great use of texture, hope I'll be able to do something like that... one day

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tsabo6 In reply to dr-kelso [2010-02-16 20:07:54 +0000 UTC]

You will. But its not that big deal i just fool around with my brushes.
Try to use some custom made brushes, there are tons of pre-made brushes in photoshop brushes-dir
i got all my free textures stored in my galery [link]
the are totaly free for any usage.

dr-kelso In reply to Tsabo6 [2010-02-20 10:04:17 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much! ^^
I just can't find an approach to painting with those texture brushes, I use pattern only on cloth and on faces/skin sometimes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tsabo6 In reply to dr-kelso [2010-02-20 10:34:12 +0000 UTC]

not pattern, custom brushes, try to make one by yourself and test it,
play with options and settings on the brush along with dual brush tests... i hope this helps
sorry if i sound strange my english is not verry good
