Almost looks like a mountain ridge itself! I'll give it two years before my old house looks like that. Sad really. Hey I'm sure all this place needs is a little spackle, paint, and a good sweeping to make it look like new!

There is a lot of value in the old weathered barn wood, at least in some trendy market areas. But it likely will be on the ground in another year or two. Once the spine is broken like that it is a matter of time. There is much more extensive decay this year than there was last year....there was 3 or 4 feet of snow up there last winter.

The hotel I liked that's being demolished is being salvaged for its pine wood. They are going to make a pretty penny off it. I actually got two chandeliers from the place two months ago! I was pretty happy about it. That the hotel will at least live on in another form instead of being totally wrecked.

That's cool! Is that the one in Louisville that your visited or one in Florida? Where do you plan to use them?

That is the one in Clearwater, Florida. Built in 1894 by Henry Plant, the railroad tycoon. I stayed there for a convention in 2008 and I spent more time exploring the hotel than actually attending the convention. It was a great time and I'll never forget it. The chandeliers were lacquered brass, so I removed the lacquer and polished the brass so they will patina uniformly and naturally. One is hanging in my walk in closet, and the other is in our "library". They look amazing!

Nah, they are four-light brass chandeliers about 18 inches tall and 24 wide. They had so many of them! The chandeliers I got once hung from the halls that the guest rooms connected to. They must have had 100 of them at first!

Thanks! The ceiling medallion has similar design elements as the glass shades, which is why I chose those medallions. I got two medallions so I would have matching chandeliers in case I wanted to hang them side by side at some point in another house.

Thanks! It took a lot of looking online, and this medallion was the last one I found in my search.

Thank you. It was an amazing sky and the highlights and shadows the light made on the wheat was something to see.
