hey, quick question. is this a raw picture? or did u add shadow to the right of the photo for effect? love the shot btw =]] did u do anything else to this photo, if so please tell, i just want to know how ppl touch up these types of shots. thanks =]

This was one of the first shots I took when my camera was new so I believe it was shot in .jpeg form instead of raw. The 18-55mm kit lens produces some vignetting at 18mm which I learned only after taking a couple of shots (not saying it's a bad thing) so that would be the slightly darker areas to the left. Why the Right side is so much stronger can be explained simply by the fact that the sun has set more to the left so it's just darker in that area. So it's just the photo, no added effects.
The trickyest part is the timing. You have to guess the time when the sun has just dissappeared behind the horizon and the colors are most vivid. It's easy to wait too long and notice that the colors have started to fade. It is also easy to be too impatient and take the shot while there's still a small visible part of the sun in the shot. This causes most of the sunset photos to be bright and bland in colors. Then comes the tweaking: low winds so there will be a clear reflection. Too many clouds will steal the light and color away but a few near the sunset can really make the colors stand out.

aye i really loved this piece.
it was so different from the other ones because of the lack of clouds and the beautiful hue gradient of the setting sun.
great silhouettes that mark and give you a foreground to enjoy when you're tired of the horizon.
