When Hollywood makes a movie about me, I'm going to beg them to use this as the promotional poster.  Excellently done!

Really like this, especially the visible brush strokes. This kinda reminds me of the Demon's Souls cover art, with the mist/smoke thats coming from the armor.

Thanks

I tell everyone that's interested that I'm 100% transparent when it comes to how I lean and whatnot and I'm always up for sharing my process and helping people out.

That is very noble of you. I try to find some time to make a proper tutorial and fail every time.  There's just too much work.

I love the light-and-dark contrast on this one. When you posted this on a "dark art" Thumbshare topic, it only caught my eye even more because of the shining highlights! All of the different colors and shades that you used definitely make this look like armor. I really like the textures, too.

Fantastic use of brush strokes and color.  From the thumb it looks like a photograph done in a studio.

I love how it looks so realistic, but rough (the way it keeps the brush strokes) at the same time.

Thanks! It's heavily influenced by Jamie Jones and that sweet style he has and the type of personal paintings Dave Rapoza does. Still trying to make it my own "style" or whatever

Oh boy, I just looked them up, their art is really cool. haha. I'm so ignorant to the art world. Ugh, it's so difficult trying to find a style without copying other artists.

Well no ones style is totally original if you ask them about it and they answer honestly. The trick is to have so many influences that them as a collective will produce your own style. If we take an artist like Luke Mancini (works at Blizzard Entertainment) and look at his robots and pin up inspired designs we may think he has an original style. Well if we look up Ashley Wood we will se one of the primary influences on his art. He combines other styles and ideas to make his own and we can do this reverse engineering to Ashley Wood too. Ashley is heavily influenced by Kent Williams, Phil Hale, Dave McKean and Mike Mignola (and probably hundreds of other artists, movies, books and whatnot). We can continue to trace back the influences of every artists style forever and ever. So don't ever feel bad about copying styles, just do it so much from all types of people that it becomes "you".

There is a small book called Steal Like an Artist that explains this very well and it helps you understand individuality in creative mediums. Awesome read if you ever feel like a copycat or that you can't find your own "style"
