Description
This was a commissioned piece for a tattoo that is to cover right side of shoulder blades, over the shoulder, onto pectorals (heads) with the tail curving down around the arm. This piece was drawn to the customers specifications.
Orignal size is 23inches x 13inches.
Tools: Pencils 2h, HB, 3B and blending stump (tortillion)
Ok, I want to do a background to this piece but I'm finding myself stumped as to what exactly to put. Any ideas??? Feel free to mention them!! Thanks for looking

the way the legs are positioned, it looks like the dragon could be sitten on the tip of a mountain, or a tower of some sort,the wings do not look like they are in flight or i would say holding prey, and the background would be the preys habitat. Tiz an awesome peice so far would love to know when it is done. good luck

wow the intricate detail and shading is amazing. Im pretty much a noob to drawing and recently started learning more about dragons. Im working on an oriental dragon as we speak. Although nothing of your caliber you do inspire me to pay close attention to detail on mine.
As for a background, on mine I am doing a tea paper color for a varied ancient looking paper, and I am drawing some asian looking clouds. Wish I was more helpful. Well when I finish it im happy to let you know so you can see what im talking about.

Amazing dragon! The shading is awesome! I could see it in the sky flying over a field lined with trees and maybe a river running through it. Just my vision.

well, it isn't original, as it's from the movie 'how to train your dragon'. it has a 2 headed dragon in it too, and one side breaths gas, while teh other breaths fire!

as to how long it took...to be honest I'm not really sure cuz it was a lot of on/off work from the sketch process (communicating back and forth with customer to get it exactly as he wanted it). When that part was resolved and finalized, and drawn in its large size, with about a couple of hours each day to work on it...I would half hazard a guess on total time from conception stage to finished stage...30hrs I'm guessing??? (and bear in mind that's a very rough guesstimate! )
