Era: Comes from a Victorian society with a modern twist. In other words, advanced technology coupled with gothic and classical styles. In addition, airships of varying sizes were the most common mode of transportation, their numbers analogous to the amount of cars that we have (that's a lot of air traffic!)

Emerson is not cold and calculating--nor is he aloof. His interests towards something is usually hard-earned .He received his label 'genius' by being a rather unconventional thinker. If it's one thing he loves it is finding a way to break the rules, whether it be natural laws, commonly held beliefs, or the laws passed by authorities.

And no, he does not calculate with percentages. He carries a pen to jot down ideas on anything that he finds.
