Because We Live On this day in history, October 24, 1945, the United Nations was born. Its purpose, to prevent the outbreak of another world war, or the evils that arose from the last one, should never be forgotten. It is easy, with so many problems in the world today, to get swept up in pessimism that things will only grow worse and worse until the end comes. We must remember that strong faith in God and His help in many small ways, along with our greater commitment to work together for the common good, helped us overcome the enemies of humanity in the last world war. How much we still have to appreciate, if we will turn our eyes toward hopeful things, and enjoy and celebrate the divinely-granted gifts of nature and of human creativity, with senseless acts of kindness and random acts of beauty!
