Description

Finally! I got this little brat finished. Took about three days just for me to get the will to draw him on paper and took 3 hours to sketch. Humans are so god damn hard.

A belated B-Day present for ...I told you I'll draw him for you, dear. Sorry it took a while...I'm so slow.

Since it is obviously stylized, I can't critique much in terms of realism. One thing to watch out for is proportion. His arms feel way too long, and his hands are too small when compared to his head. The top of his hair is getting lost with the background, lighten up the BG or lighten his hair up to show. I would have liked to see some hard brush on this but that's just me. Very nice on his logo btw, and his pants feel nice as well. I want to say his neck feels long as well, pushing his head down just a bit will easily fix that. Lastly, I'd look at skin tone reference and try working that color into his skin better. It feels chalky I would say?

Overall, the drawing works nicely but just watch out for those things I mentioned next time. Keep at it a.deviantart.net/avatars/g/o/gā€¦ " alt=" " title="goodjobplz"/>

Pretty good! I like the style. It almost has a Fairly Oddparents feel to it, which I'm not sure I've seen Wilbur done that way before.

Also, I like the "R" on his belt. I'm not entirely sure if that's something I've seen him with (gah, memory horrible) but it's great to add as detail either way.

Thank you Zaz I didn't realize my style is like with FOP's

Why yes if you look closely in the movie and in screencaps, he does have a "R" on his beltbuckle.

I think it's something about the eyes. Just really struck me.

And goes to show I've gotta be getting old. Never noticed the R. heh.

Ah... I thought they were more towards anime than FOP.

Perhaps so. Maybe FOP was trying to lean towards anime..

I gotta say this is pretty good for a human, because you've told me on numerous occasions that you don't draw them. The fact that you did him in your style and didn't try to emulate Disney so much probably helped with that. Taking the 3D Wilbur and making him 2D is really difficult.
I don't know if you did this in any drawing classes but have you learned gesture drawing? It's helped me in so many ways concerning posture of a person and how to keep them from looking stiff.

This is really well done though

transylvaniandreams In reply to NurfHurdur [2010-03-05 07:48:05 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Yeah it was hard to draw him since he is a 3D character. I'm just happy I drew him more in my own style.

Oh I didn't get to gesture drawing. I should be when I take drawing classes in uni though. I can't wait for next fall

Thank you...I gave him a few stands of hair sticking out so it can look more like my own style since I do like hair and fur sticking out.

girl-next-door13 In reply to transylvaniandreams [2010-03-05 05:09:03 +0000 UTC]

No problem...I do the same thing sometimes if the hair doesn't come out looking right with my drawings.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

transylvaniandreams In reply to girl-next-door13 [2010-03-05 05:18:14 +0000 UTC]

Yeah...so many pictures of him have his hair too smooth. Not that there's anything wrong with that...his hair is very smooth in the movie. But I like drawing things in my own style.

Drawing stuff in your own style is easier in my opinion and it can be more fun.

transylvaniandreams In reply to girl-next-door13 [2010-03-05 07:32:01 +0000 UTC]

Indeed...plus more professional and enjoyable. I really don't like copying anyone's style since I do have my own and I like it as it is.

Same here. Its like when you have you're own style its easy to tell who's art is who's by looking at it. Its like your own hallmark.
