Thanks! Milverton has always been one of my favourite Sherlockian villains. I wanted to do something very special for the GMD version of him.

I always imagine his expressions as that of a vulture or a snake. He's a guy he knows what your thinking, your most secret of secrets. It's scary to have that he has that sort of power over you.

I've always wanted to visit Romania. It's a land of conquerors and tyrants. Much of it is still a third world country, even to this day, still living in the medieval times. It's cold, sinister, and primal. That's how I see Silverson.

How I came to make him Romanian is rather ironic: It went from "Augustus" being a "Roman" name to a "Romanian" mixed in with my love for vampyres. You have a "blackmailer," which is by at accounts a "bloodsucker," hence "vampyre." Where's the most famous vampyre in the world? Dracula. Where is he from? Transylvania, but much of Transylvanian territory was taken away by Romania. In fact, Bran Castle (Castle Dracula) and Poenari Castle is located in Romania. Romania has this rich, rich history of conquerors and tyrants and warriors, like Vlad III who was the model for Dracula. One of Silverson's models is Frank Langella who played the title role of Dracula in the 1979 Universal remake. Romania is this really isolated, cold, eerie, atmospheric area. It's beautiful but has a sinisterness to it, but remarkable passion. There's also this funny aspect that the only people in England who can speak proper English are foreigners. Foreigners also have a negative contention in Victorian England and, in fact, they still do today.

Really? That's how I do it! I do have an essay written out called "Why Sherringford?" and the second part is me translating names of my characters.

I think that is why batman is so popular. Nearly all his villians are sympathetic. i mean you could look at them and say " They could have been the hero only if"

Lets go with comics and animated series. I rarely get my happy villian vibe from the batman movies expect with the Jack Nicholas Joker one. /happy villian vibe.

Oh, yes. I recall this adventure! A great one, where our detective actually stands on the right side of the curtain but not quite the right side of the law!
I still wonder... does the worst mouse in London eat the worst pies in London? Keeps me awake at nights

No, Silverson is very particular about his food, so he wouldn't eat the "worst pies inn London".

Yeah... pitty isn't it? I mean, it would have been a great case for either Sherlock Holmes or Sherringford Basil. Maybe not as great as Mrs. Lovett burning on her own oven or Toby cutting off Mr. Todd's throat but still interesting.

Well, I may do an adaptation of it because on the Basil Rathbone radioplay where Holmes investigates an actor who plays Sweeney Todd on the stage gets into a bit of a mess. It's a neat story.

Very neat. There's Silverson. A little sketchy, which is distracting but neat.
Silverson's saving grace, in my mind, is that he treats his servants well. And his wife and his girl. He takes care of his people, you have to give him that.

Nice and neat doesn't necessarily mean that it's better. I love the sketches because I feel it wouldn't the same vibrancy or emotional peak than a cleanup. I honestly don't believe I could improve this piece further if I cleaned it up and coloured it. I love the ruggedness of it.
I feel Silverson has more saving graces than that. He is disarmingly polite. And he really can be the gentlest, nicest, and most generous person at the strangest times. He surprises me more than I can say.

You do make a good point, often the feeling of movement is much easier to translate through the rougher sketches.
I am forced to wonder how exactly does one go about becoming a master blackmailer? I mean did he just wake up one morning and go "Oh! I wonder how much fun it would be to dig up dirt on society ladies?" or something.

Silverson's family lost all their wealth, so he had to make something of himself from scratch. I'm sure he had the best intentions to do it by putting in the hours and through hard work, but found it easier and more lucrative to cheat the system. He had a talent for secrets. He had a way of looking right into your soul, which is unsettling. He has a really high standard of morals, ironically, and thought what better way than to make profit from them. It's business, after all.
