Linkle!
So, had a lot of people asking my thoughts on her, and I’m really glad people care what I think. I’ve hesitated answering in full because, well, I may be over-complicating my thoughts on her since I’ve got my own ideas of how a female Link would/could be. And I don’t wanna jump into things without knowing enough. Like, there’s one crucial element I’m unsure of – is she a female Link, one of those amidst the canon timelines? Or is she Link’s daughter? Alternate universe Link like Ravio? A fangirl who admires Link? I just don’t know, and what it is sets the standard for everything.
So, on just general impressions on what very little we’ve seen, there’s a lot to like. The outfit could take some getting used to, but it’s pretty neat with a lot of familiar elements. The compass is an interesting addition, and I wonder what story/gameplay purpose it might have. Dual crossbows are a silly idea that makes just enough sense for a Zelda fantasy warrior game, and comes off pretty badass - Like, have you seen how she reloads them both at once while jumping in a fraction of a second? Awesome stuff. And I’m curious why it was important to say she was from a town full of Cucoos. I’m glad she’s getting cinematics and probably will be an important character in the new story chapters, and I’m interested in learning more about her.
But here’s my party pooper paragraph. If she’s Link’s daughter, alternate universe Link, etc – I’m totally fine with everything we have with her. But if she’s a canon-type Link, one of the reincarnations of the Hero, then, I dunno – Her design, her attitude, her choice of weapons – unfortunately, everything that makes her unique makes me just not read her as a Link. One of my (albeit completely personal) expectations of what a female Link would be is that she would be, well, not much different than any other Link. Male, female, what’s the difference – She’s Link. Each Link across the timelines did have their unique factors, but, while being separate people in separate eras, they all felt invariably similar, and familiar, and Linkle just doesn’t feel that way to me.
Also, I hate the name Linkle. One time, I posted a Rule 63 Link with the title ‘Linka’, and someone rightfully told me that it didn’t seem right that a female Link would have a different name. Also, her personality feels a bit too much like Lana’s right now.
Again, only seen a few scant seconds and little information, so hey, premature opinions probably, but there ya go. Overall, she doesn’t read as ‘Link’ to me, but I like what I see and looking forward to seeing more.

I completely agree with your thoughts on Linkle. I'm glad she's in the game, but she just doesn't fit my expectations for a female Link. Her old design was much closer on a physical standpoint, but her current design... I'm not a huge fan of it. I guess it's a good thing she's not exactly a female Link, and is instead a completely different character.
Another thing has kind of bummed me out after her reveal: There's tons of artwork for her - which is great, I've got a growing collection - but I'm not seeing any new original fem Link pieces, and as someone who also has their own version of fem Link, that kinda makes me sad... I hope after the hype for her dies down a bit, we'll continue to see more original interpretations of fem Link, because there were a few that I REALLY liked, (yours included) and I don't want to see them disappear because of Linkle...

Thanks for the kind words! And on the bummage, I agree - I do hope that Linkle doesn't become the de facto one-and-only femLink design. I enjoyed seeing how others designed Rule 63 Link in various ways, and hope they don't get constricted to just Linkle-ish looks. Even if she's canon femLink, there's plenty of other timelines and eras to play with.

Hey, thanks for replying~! Honestly, after she was revealed, I was happy at first, but then, I started feeling a little discouraged to draw my femLink design that I've been working on for awhile... I just try and tell myself that Linkle is different, and my femLink is my own baby, but seeing all the love she gets kinda makes me want to just jump on the bandwagon, and draw her instead...

To be fair, apparently the name Linkle is just a pun that didn't translate. Her name in Japan is Rinkuru, and Kuru means Spinning/Twirling. Kuru can also mean "To Come", meaning her name can translate as "The Link To Come". Which fits in with her being from the future or whatever. It's just that Nintendo of America didn't bother to actually translate the intent of her name and just did the lazy route.

From what I heard of the Direct, she isn't a "Female Link", rather, separate character with many similarities to Link (Which, since the Concept Arts, she is even further from being Link than even before)
I do like her fighting style is based on the Crossbow Training game

Ehh, I feel like you're getting too hung up on all the thought you've already put into female Link. "Female Link should be basically exactly like regular Link, except a girl" makes perfect sense if they had a female link for a normal Zelda game, but for a game like Hyrule warriors where male Link not only exists but is supposed to be a separate character with unique gameplay, making the two of them too similar would be boring.

That's fair - I mentioned as much about overcomplicating my thoughts as well. However, she could still look closer to Link and still wield swords and be different - Impa, Zelda, and Ganon wield swords in the game and do things differently. Granted, Young Link can play very similarly in some respects to Link, but the combo enders and the use of the Ocarina significantly added to the options of how to play him.

Whatever they should decide to do, you ard your comic vignettes will always ultimately be what defined female Link as an actual character, instead of just a concept, in my mind.

In her design art, she was conceived with being Link's sister in head. A bit like Aryll in WW.

Yeah the Linkle name is pretty dumb... but this design and choice of weapons would make sense for an incarnation of Link that's just starting out, before finding the Master sword or equivalent, before finding out about the destiny thing, granted Link has always defaulted to board-and-sword even before figuring that stuff out in previous incarnations, but I can give some benefit of the doubt there.

The art book for Hyrule Warriors had the artist comment directly that she was going to be Link's little sister, hence the similarities. They were so overwhelmed (in a good surprised way) by fans asking for her to be included that they promised they'd work her into the game.
So yeah, she's not an incarnation of Link, just his peppy little sister who just happened to share his badassness.

My personal theory is Linkle is a 'Finoa & Cake' situation where their universe has a gender swapped character to match every regular universe character, but everyone is just different enough to be their own unique person.

From what I remember hearing, she was originally intended to be like a little-sister-type character to Link without actually being his sister. So, I guess that's make her not a "canon-type Link".
Although I suppose things change from a scrapped concept to a fully fleshed out character.

The name is ridiculous and, if anything, her design seems like just a generic elfgirl, resembling the Elf from the game Dragon's Crown given braids and crossbows instead of a hood and longbow far more than anything associated with Link either by style or identity.
Overall, she comes off to me as a very disappointing attempt at what could've been an interesting character concept.

Hm rapid firing crossbows, kind of reminds me Liansha, or at least the version I played in warrior orchi 3. Took me a bit to get used to but once I did I kind of loved the sort of long range attacks, especially when I used her in a game mode that was basically survive and try to find the exit while the enemies keep getting stronger.
