Lol I always carry two spare iron picks just in case and I have two in each chest in the mine. I remember the first time I found redstone back in 1.6.6 I thought it could make more tools and weapons and tried to make a redstone pick axe. I guess I should have observed the words "redstone DUST".

When i was a noob back in 1.9pre6 i used to use a Wooden Pick with the iron ore and i was like "WTF why this isn't coming out blaaaaaahahrag,f.lafhbjr.gvsbj,,xdf?!"

Heck, I tried breaking bedrock on my first go...
My friend once wuit minecraft completely 'cause he couldn't break bedrock; he thought it was a glitch.

Yeah i've seen people that rage so hard at minecraft when they play for the first time, even i did but i've stayed and i'm proud i'm good now!
Minecraft seriously needs a tutorial like the Xbox version does.
