Description For Mish - who has to be the sweetest person who has ever commissioned me. I really enjoyed working on this. I hope you like the final thing. Thank you for being so enthusiastic throughout the whole process, for the artistic freedom you gave me and for your conversation throughout!

Digital painting, done from scratch in Photoshop, as usual. Mish gave me the brief of a full figure painting of a woman conveying a good side and an evil side, but in a more subtle way than you usually see for this kind of painting. Originally, there wasn't going to be much of a background, but I just couldn't resist.

As always, I like your lighting and colors. One important thing, I think, that would make the image even better is if you can make her pose more naturally. Right now she looks too stiff, as is her expression. Just some thoughts that would really make your work stand out even more I do love the sky and the light coming through. Keep up the good work!

good rendering and details as always. Just one thing that strikes me is how narrow her shoulders are, would looks more natural to widen them a bit. Love the details on her skirt, esp the bottom.;;;

ToySkunk In reply to ShiNiQ [2010-06-27 14:36:55 +0000 UTC]

They are rather narrow, yes - I was going for a very slender, almost waif-like figure, but I was aware of the narrowness of the shoulders as I was doing it and I kept widening them but not enough (unusual, because I have very broad shoulders for a girl, from powerlifting ). I'll ask the client if she wants me to update the image with broader shoulders. Thanks for the crit and compliment!

Pretty awesome. She's got no bewbs, though. The picture has enough detail and awesome painting techniques that noticing it gets pretty hard, but yeah, she's really flat chested.

ToySkunk In reply to lucas-irineu [2010-06-27 14:29:47 +0000 UTC]

Well, the client didn't want her to be busty. The chests of lots of girls would look like that while wearing a dress with thick, gathered material down the front, like that one. In fact... my chest would look like that.

Well, you know more about dresses than I do, I guess I can't really argue.

This figure is meant to have a build kind of like Keira Knightley or almost like a fashion model, anyway.

Not all women are blessed with Double D's.

I think this is beautiful, I love her dress and the details in the background.

lucas-irineu In reply to Imkihca [2010-06-27 16:08:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but I don't even think that this one has an A. Looking at how the folds on the clothing work, one would think that she has chest as big as that of a skinny guy.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying this piece is bad in any way, I just thought I should point the lack of boobs. But yeah, its not something that someone would notice unless they're looking for flaws in the pic.

Some girls do have chests that small, trust me without a great bra on I'm one of them!
I just wanted to point out that I didn't think it looked like a flaw.

Don't think blessed is the right word.

Like there's "hot" pretty.

and there's "cute"

nice painting

Thank you! I really enjoyed designing her dress. I thought that the ombre effect would work well with the 'light and dark' theme.

That is absolutely Stunning...

Might I ask - what are your commission rates?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ToySkunk In reply to Rythmear [2010-06-27 14:46:04 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
My rates are... well, it really depends on what the client has in mind. I charged 130USD for this piece. I didn't have the intention of including such a detailed background for that price, but I got carried away.

If you have anything in mind, let me know and I'll give you a quote. As a guideline, a simple portrait like [link] would be $60 and a big digital painting like [link] would be $200 (sorry for the fact that they're both white horses; they just happen to be the best ones I've got to use as guidelines for prices!).

If you do fancy commissioning me, I'll let you know now that I'm going to be on holiday between the 9th July and the 24th, and while I'll be able to check and reply to messages I won't be taking my equipment with me so I wouldn't be able to work on anything over that period. Usually I request that (for a larger piece) I'd be given around a month to work, but if you want to organise anything before I go away, I may have to ask for a few weeks longer.

HmMmMMMmmmMmMMmMmmmm...

I'm torn between my own moderate poverty and the immense quality of your art.

Thing is, the last person I commissioned to do something for me charged about $100 for the art in question. It has been three months since I've heard from them and they haven't been online - so I'm a bit more wary about these things at this point...

But for reference, if I were to commission you, it'd be for my character - Umbrella Man: [link]

ToySkunk In reply to Rythmear [2010-06-27 15:07:35 +0000 UTC]

I have heard about so many issues of this nature, it's really disappointing. It might be worth posting on this LiveJournal community [link] - you can ask if anyone has heard anything from this artist and also warn people about working with them, since they have decided to 'forget' about your commission (and possibly any others they might have had!).

I very much understand your caution, anyway. Just have a look through some of the posts on that site - you are by no means the only person this has happened to. It tends to reflect badly on the artistic community as a whole, which is a shame. I hope you can get your money back from that $100 commission (or, indeed, your artwork).

Have a think about it, anyway. I wouldn't want you to feel uncomfortable handing money over, particularly if it's quite a sacrifice of funds. If it helps, I do have a good track record and haven't missed a deadline yet - people do tend to come back to me for further commissions - but ultimately, it's up to you and how comfortable you feel in the situation. Let me know.

Oh, and your character is awesome. I've got quite a thing for gasmasks, actually,

Well, how long does a picture of yours normally take?

I'm quite patient (I've waited three months to get suspicious of this bloke), but I think from now on it would be prudent to find out how long the things will take so I don't start worrying

Late reply is almost a year late...

Just to let you know, I'm the one who commissioned this picture and I was extremely nervous at first because I've never bought any commission this expensive before. However, we signed a contract and she kept me updated on progress with sketches and colours and made sure it was going how I wanted it.

She was fantastic, in other words P: She's highly reliable.

Usually I'd request a month. As I said though, I'm on holiday soon so if you wanted to organise anything over that period I'd have to tag on an extra couple of weeks.

Naturally - check back in with me when you get back, hopefully I'll have either gotten word, art or money from the previous bloke.
