I wish I could take all the credit for how beautiful they look, but that would be unfair. It's kind of like taking a photo of the Taj Mahal or the Alps or a peacock. To me, of course they look beautiful. But to answer your question more specifically, I just play around with lighting and filters and such until I hit on a combination I like. I think the monochromatic palette works really well for these images and I like this combination of filtering I've settled upon. I will likely do more like these.
