About a month ago, your lovely Marie Antoinette art inspired me to study pre-revolution France more in-depth, especially what daily life in the palace of Versailles was like. And though she was certainly not suffering in the same way the Third Estate peasants were, what I read made me feel sorry for her as she lead a rather ...uniquely difficult life.
Everything she did was in the public eye. Nobody living in that filthy palace could do anything without a crowd of spectators watching. They could hardly eat, give birth, or even have sex in private, which is disgusting and unimaginable-- some things are simply not meant to be a show for strangers! These people had no sense of boundaries, even to the point of where Marie Antoinette's menustration cycle (yuck!) was a popular discussion topic among both the nobility and commoners. For most of her life, she couldn't get a single hour to herself. What a horrible life to lead.

Everything you said is true: you cannot say Marie Antoinette was suffering from hunger or fatigue, but het story is indeed a story of sufferings. You cannot tell a person's happiness from his/her richness.
It's so sad that the common view about Marie Antoinette is the one divulged by the "hate pamphlets". She is seen as a femme fatale, promiscuous, proud of her role, stupid and cruel. It's just unfair. My mission, with my art, is trying to give her the compassion and the love she deserves.
