That is so beautiful....I love the way you handled his profile and the lighting and shading is so well done....reminds me of old Renaissance paintings....so painterly but so subtle. Very well done. Awesome job here, love it!

Oh, it's ok, you don't bothering me. But my English is very poor, I'm afraid I cannot give you good answer)

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-18 16:47:06 +0000 UTC]

Ohh ok. Well you are fine, I can still understand you very well.

My question was just, how do you blend the colors and the skin so well? The portraits you make are so crisp and clean, the skin doesnt look smuggy it looks smooth, but its not perfectly smooth because of maybe the brush you were using the portrait had such a nice texture. Also, i really looveee how you draw his facial features i think my favorite part of the whole picture is his nose, i don't know why but its adorable.

i guess I am just curious to know what tools do you use and how you determine the colors?

Toru-meow In reply to 0ImagInc0 [2013-10-18 18:19:52 +0000 UTC]

I'm using smudge tool at PS) Texture will depends on what brush will you choose to blend. I'm always give advice to experiment with tools and brushes - it' helpnig to create your own style, find your own way. I use a lot of brushes

About colors - well, I don't know. When someone at last workshop asked Tiago Hoisel same question he felt in confusion. And I always do the same. There are color theory, we all know it, but also it's all intuitive. And of course you can take youre colors from what ever you want - photo or maybe oil paintings, or live model. Use any reference you got)

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-18 18:37:06 +0000 UTC]

Oooo, I am currently learning more about color theory. So basically, you can know the color theory but mostly its all up to you to figure out the light, shadows, and the colors.

I do look at a lot of references, I even use your art as a reference because you are so good with using the correct colors in their correct environment.

For my brushes I use a lot of brushes too XD, but mostly i use a round brush and square brush for my pictures, but they are not as pretty as yours. I would have the correct skin tones and the correct lightening, but my pictures always feel unfinished or not as polished.

Toru-meow In reply to 0ImagInc0 [2013-10-18 18:59:16 +0000 UTC]

Polished art - is not final goal. Look at this - fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/f/201…

static.diary.ru/userdir/6/9/7/…

Do they looks polished? You must keep vibrant feeling of living in your pic - that's all. Feel yoursef free in it)

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-18 23:09:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh, so basically, I am just trying to bring vibrance and making my picture some to life. The goal is not to try to make it polish but to just bring out the subject.

Well, here I guess is some of my art that I try to bring out,

0imaginc0.deviantart.com/art/V…

0imaginc0.deviantart.com/art/E…

0imaginc0.deviantart.com/art/J… I think these are the few pictures that actually turn out ok lol.

They are very accurate you know)

If I'll be you, I'll step out from anime stile a little more. Anime is accutare and pretty, and neat, but I rather take those pics 88grzes.deviantart.com/art/Ret…

elna70.deviantart.com/art/MERL…

hoooook.deviantart.com/art/1sd…

Get out from anime standart - best you can do for improving your style

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-19 05:59:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh i thought I was stepping out of that anime style, I do not use anime at all for my references. I look at real life pictures or more realistic pictures.

Oh dear now i feel a little sadden I thought i was stepping out of the anime world, I guess I still have a long way to go. I guess the only picture to me that looks more real is my "Jon" picture.

Why does my art still look a tiny bit anime though?

You need more practice with anatomy and bring to faces more individual lineaments. You can't just take the photo ref and  paint the man as good as it is - you need long practice. Your achievement - it is just a beginning

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-21 15:21:59 +0000 UTC]

oh alright then I will take long practice on my anatomy. And improve on my facial features and improve my anatomy.

How long did it take you to achieve being good at anatomy and landscapes?

Im 19 now, but it feels like it is going to be a long time before I could ever reach a good level of skill.

Toru-meow In reply to 0ImagInc0 [2013-10-21 15:56:43 +0000 UTC]

I've been learning 5 years in university to reach "acceptable" level in painting, and I'm still learning - I mean self-education. I practice every day, and I am still not as good as I wish to be 8) Even my senior colleagues keep theyr trainings.

Seems like you are have been step on a long way)

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-21 16:04:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh my. I have been been mostly teaching myself how to draw all my life, I do go to an art class at a state college, but we learn how to draw with traditional mediums. My teachers say that I am doing very well, but I always feel doubtful of myself like I need to train harder and better, so I draw and practice everyday too. I am not really satisfied with my artwork, I can even be a little negative and critical of my art but I only want to be the best artist I can be.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Toru-meow In reply to 0ImagInc0 [2013-10-21 16:30:59 +0000 UTC]

Don't be afraid, your art is fine for your age.) I'm 27, and I've start drawing in my childhood, in age of 3.)  Being critical - is normal. That is a point wich can push you forward, but don't let yourself drown in despair just like "Oh, why practicing does not working?" - cuz theyr does, - or "I will never become a good painter". Yes, you will. You are so young, you have a whole lifetime to education.  I choose to put my life for art, and I am happy in it. I not a good painter, but it's ok, cuz I do what I love the most.

Don't worry, you'll be alright) Will you feel better if I'll said that I wasn't as good as you when I was 19?)

0ImagInc0 In reply to Toru-meow [2013-10-21 18:15:21 +0000 UTC]

You weren't good at 19?

But your art looks soooo soo super amazing, I assumed that you would have like intense training at a young age. Like at 19 you received awards and stuff for your art lol.

If I may ask. How you do you paint the designs on the cloth? Do you paint it separately as a flat design and then superimpose it onto the cloth?
