Description Wow. This came out a lot better than I thought it would. If any of you have seen my most recent journal, this is the picture that my teacher said was "anime" (which anyone who can see with their eyes can tell its not) and "looked down upon by the art community." Even so, I like this picture and i'm proud of how I've improved.

So yeah, you guys get to see how I think Kira would look in semi-realistic form. Hope I didnt make her ugly.

This is so not anime! I think you did a perfect job! Far better than any realism I try to do! And I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be "Looked down upon" in the art community. It's supposed to be a free expression of how you feel, and your emotions visually.

Yeah that's not anime... -_- The shading (on her arm) yes it's similar to your style when you're drawing anime, but other than that, it's not anime. Her face is far closer to realism than anime...

yeah, I'm actually going to fix the arm up, since I did that by accident. Force of habit.

Hmm...now I know your art teacher is being complete ass to ya, dear, this picture does not looked in the slightest anime, it's far from it. And I've had seen drawings of hybrid American cartoon and Anime artstyles before. And this is not it, it is semi-realistic, but this is more in common with American cartoon artstyles. >:/

I don't know about you, Tori-Chan, But I think your art teacher needs to get off his/her fucking high horse and take whatever he/she got in their asses out. Because only a stuck up art teacher would say that "anime is looked down upon by the art community" Come to think of it, what kind of damn art teacher would say such a asinine phrase like that?! That would be like saying that American or Walt Disney or Foreign cartoons are looked down upon by the art community. =A=

Jesus Christ on the Holy Cross, I have never heard such a dumb phrase that came out of a art teacher's mouth in my life of doing artwork. Seriously, fuck that teacher. D8<

Best comment ever. Thank you Redwolf, out of everyone that commented, yours cheered me up the most. You're a very good friend

And yeah, she's a dumbass and I'm sooo done with her. On my last ball-point pen project, she gave me a 1 out of 5 on one of the standards. Its seriously making me just want to quit drawing.

RedW0lf777sg In reply to Tori001 [2013-11-21 22:24:07 +0000 UTC]

WHAT?! She only give you an 1 out of 5 for one of your ball-point pen artwork?! That fucking bitch, you do great pen drawings. Your art teacher is really starting to piss me of to no end!  And let me guess the other art students who do realistic artwork got better scores than you and your friends, Yes-No? (if I was in your shoes and my art teacher give me an unfair score like that, I would rise fucking hell for it and don't care if it gets me in trouble).

It's really clear to me that your art teacher is just single minded, selfish and closed minded. And it looks to me like this art teacher is she's more or less just forcing her tastes upon the class. A good art teacher would encourage an art student to follow the artstyle they want to do as their life long career. Making a student to only do one medium of art or one style of art is just wrong, because you are limiting what another artstyles they can do. If every artist only did realism artwork than it would make the art world rather dull. Not to mention you wouldn't have famous artists like Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh. I mean come on art is supposed to be diverse, and diversity is encouraged!

And how she can speak for the "entire art community" when all she ever amounted to was a high school or college art teacher? And obviously not a very good one, who can't seem to get out of the stone age and is culturally close minded. because in Asian areas anime is top notch. They use it in commercials and just about everything you can think of.

The way I see it, an artist has the right to choose whatever favorite art styles they want to learn. And you do art to freely express yourself and for your own personal enjoyment. Especially, when you have friends who also loved to draw the same artstyle as you. Don't ever change the way you do art just so you could pleased or satisfied someone else's views of on art, dear.

And I also find it rather laughable that your teacher believes they can speak for the "entire art community" when essentially it also includes anime, manga, and cartoon artists. And the fact she said such an asinine statement just shows how much she knows about the art world and how stuck up she is. And if she thinks that anime and manga artists are not artists, than I guess American cartoonist and comic book artists are not artists as well, when some of these artist have became famous throughout the world for their work and have become an essential part of American pop culture.

You got Walt Disney, who is best known as cartoonist: one of the first to do film. "Steamboat Willie" was the first cartoon to use sound, and was the first appearance of Mickey Mouse. He was also the first to believe people would sit through a whole feature-length animated film. With "Snow White," he started a whole new industry of entertainment. Of course later he designed and built Disneyland, then Disneyworld, capitalizing on the popularity of the many beloved characters from his films and shorts.  Disney's movies have been teaching our society that the key to happiness is to be beautiful and to be in perfect love with your destined mate. Disney's movies have not given us any other road to happiness. That's a *huge* impact on our society.

You also got Stan Lee, who is a revered comic-book creator who co-launched superheroes like the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and the X-Men for Marvel Comics and many more.

Artist Joe Shuster who work with writer Jerry Siegel in creating Superman, while artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger created Batman. These are the two most iconic superheroes in the world.

And let's not for forget, Hayao Miyazaki, One of Japan's greatest animation directors. The entertaining plots, compelling characters, and breathtaking animation in his films have earned him international renown from critics as well as public recognition within Japan. The Walt Disney Company's commitment to introduce the films to the rest of the world will let more people appreciate the high-quality works he has given the movie-going public. And most of all his anime movie "Spirited Away" earned him the Oscar Award.

And then you have Osamu Tezuka, the godfather of Anime and Manga, who is often considered the Japanese equivalent to Walt Disney, who served as a major inspiration during his formative years.  His prolific output, pioneering techniques, and innovative redefinitions of genres earned him such titles as "the father of manga", "the god of comics", and "kamisama of manga" And if wasn't for this man both anime and manga wouldn't have become what it is today. Hell, dear, the distinctive "large eyes" style of anime and manga was invented by Osamu Tezuka, drawing inspirations from cartoons of the time like Walt Disney's Bambi and Mickey Mouse.

So, dear, when it all comes down to it your art teacher is full of bullshit and she a bias bitch that needs to get fired for such ignorance and arrogance. And really, Tori-chan, I really think you shouldn't waste any more of your time, money and art talent on her art class and should go find yourself an art teacher who is more open minded when it comes to art (but I'm a bit cynical on that part though )

Tori-chan, you're a wonderful anime artist and artist in other artstyles and there no damn art teacher that can say otherwise. And as for me, I am proud to be an anime/manga artist and doing anime artwork is my life, it what's makes me the happiest.

So I'll be damn to hell before I let some fucking douchebag art teacher tell me something like that or anything otherwise.

PS: Oh, and on a side note, I think you should try doing an hybrid artstyle of American cartoon and anime, because I think you can do something really great with that, dear.

Its funny because my dad just told me pretty much the same thing. I completely agree with you. Anime is a great form of art, just as good, if not better, than other forms. Glad you think so too.

And what do you mean by the hybrid thing? explain.

RedW0lf777sg In reply to Tori001 [2013-11-24 15:15:50 +0000 UTC]

Is that right, Eh? Well I'm glad your father knows what art is. Manga, Anime, and Cartoons have just as much history in the art community. Hell, even video games are becoming a form of art in their own class, dear. =3

===

Alright then, What I mean by hybrid art style is that you combine the artstyles of American cartoon and Japanese anime into something that is completely you need to your style.

Two good examples of this is Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Boondocks two show American cartoons that share Japanese anime qualities in their artstyle. So what I'm trying to suggest is that you try experimenting with it, And see what you can come up with. <=3
