I tried it. I accidentally dragged the picture across the palete thingy and then when i dragged it back, half of it was gone..

GIMP has less options and tools but it never does that... o.o

I've never tried GIMP but right now i'm using Photoshop elements
It's not as good as proper photoshop but it's better than Open canvas.
Unfortunately it isnt free...i've just got it from a friend
But i've found that with practice, i got really quite used to open canvas C:
