I just realized that there are TONS of puns in the title name
first, of course, the crime took place on Sugarcube corner.
Second, applejack sometimes refers to people as "sugarcube".
And thirdly, Pinkie is of course metaphorically CORNERED.

"OBJECTION!"
Phoenix- "You say that 34 cakes were unaccounted for..."
*Desk Slam!*
"But that does not prove that my client was responsible. Someone else could have stolen them during that time."
"OBJECTION!"
Verdict- There can be no other conclusion, Mr. Phoenix Wright. The defendant is the only pony who knew the existence of the corn-cake shipment, as well as had the time to do the deed. The store was closed from 2:00 until 4:00, when she came back, and she had 3 hours to herself with those treats until the proprietors, the Cakes, returned from their delivery at 7:00, when they discovered the missing... cakes.
Pinkie- "But I only took 6, I swear! And that was BEFORE I left for the delivery! I was 6 cakes naughty, but not 40!"
Verdict- "You can take it from me, Guilty Verdict, Ace Prosecutor. Unless of course, you have some sort of evidence to prove your claim, DO YOU? Mr. Phoenix Wright?"
Phoenix- "Why in fact I do. (I've got you now Verdict)"
Verdict- "Of course you don't. In that case, Let's move on to th- WHAT!?"
Phoenix- *Desk Slam*Β "I have evidence that proves just what happened to those cakes! If it would please the court, I would like you to take a look at these 2 photographs Your Honor."
Judge- "Yes, they appear to be a pictures of a family of tourists. From Dodge Junction, judging by their stetsons and clothing. I don't see the significance."
Phoenix- "The family isn't what's important in the picture, look at the background on the first one."
Judge- "It appears to be... *Ding!* Oh! Sugarcube Corner!"
Phoenix- *Nod* "Exactly."
"OBJECTION!"
Verdict- "Your Honor, this has nothing to do with the case, no matter which building is in the background."
Phoenix- "It is important, and I will explain why. See what's in front of Sugar Cube corner? Just around the corner you can see what I'm talking about."
Judge- "Yes, I can see a carraige, with a couple of delivery ponies handling a crate. and there are 2 crates."
Phoenix- "And in the second picture?"
Judge- "Well, it looks like that same carriages are trotting away with the crates."
Verdict- "They could just be picking up an order for long distance delivery."
Phoenix- *Shakes head* "Absolutely not. *Points* Those pictures were taken at 3:05! WHEN THE STORE WAS CLOSED!"
"OBJECTION!"
Verdict- *Desk Slam* "Perhaps the timestamp betrays the time, there is NO WAY to determine the date on which that picture was taken!"
Judge- "Mr. Wright, can you verify that this picture was taken?"
Phoenix- *Nod* "Of course, Your Honor."
Judge- "Very well, please indicate where the date of the photograph is revealed"
"TAKE THAT!"
Phoenix- "I'd like to direct your attention here, to this orange foal with the bag full of papers on the scooter."
Judge- "Oh I remember that one! Scooterloo, from the Cutie... Park... Crab bakers?"
Phoenix- "Scootaloo, of the Cutie Mark Crusaders. (Though I wonder if they've tried baking crabs before...)"
"Scootaloo was on a paper route that day, and was generous enough to be riding along to try and get in that picture. If you look closely, *Desk Slam* *Point!* you can see that the date on the paper is THE SAME AS THE DAY OF THE THEFT!"
*Pursuit Music*
Judge- "WHAAAAAAAAAAT?"
Verdict- "WHAAAAAAAAAAT?"
Gallery- "Hububhububhubub"
*CLACK!*
Judge- "Order! Order in the Court! But Mr. Wright, are you saying that it's possible that Sugarcube Corner was robbed?"
Phoenix- *Nod* "That's exactly what I'm saying. As long as this carriage is considered, then Pinkie Pie is no longer the only suspect."
"OBJECTION!"
Verdict- *Desk Slam* "That's impossible. You can clearly see in both photos that there are only 2 crates! *Holds paper* They're using standard Equestrian Shipping Insulated crates. Not large enough to hold 40 individual corn cakes! Do you even KNOW the exact dimensions of the crates!?"
Phoenix- *Holds paper* I have it here in the Court Record. Standard ESI crates are 6 feet long, wide, and tall, shaped like a perfect cube. There were 40 corn cakes, packed individually in boxes that were w feet long, 2 feet wide, and 3 feet tall, due to the extra layer on each cake. A quick calculation reveals that each crate can hold 18 cakes, stacking them in 9 cake grids 2 cakes high in every crate. 2 crates can hold 36 cakes."
Verdict- "Exactly! 36! Where do you suppose they had those 4 extra cakes? If not packaged in insulated crates, the corn will go bad quickly, thus rendering the cakes worthless. Without room for 4 cakes, they wouldn't be stolen anyway, and thus 4 cakes would be left in the store. Your theory has been shattered Mr. Phoenix Wright."
"OBJECTION"
Phoenix- "But don't forget, Pinkie Pie already testified to eating 6 cakes beforehand. That would mean that there were not 40, but 34 cakes to be stolen. And since standard ESI crates can hold 36, as we just calculated, *Desk Slam* THEY HAD MORE THAN ENOUGH ROOM FOR ALL THE CAKES THAT WERE LEFT!"
Verdict- ".........NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

FUCK! no one told me that the cake box length was written as 'w'! I completely fucked up the dimensions of the cake boxes, though I also seem to have inadvertently created an interesting algebra problem. Let's go through that together to calculate the value of 'w'.
We know that one crate can hold 18 cake boxes, and that each crate is 6 feet long, 6 feet wide, and 6 feet tall. Mathematica says the equation for the volume of a rectangular prism is V=LxWxD. The volume of the crate is 6x6x6=6^3=216ft, thus the volume of a single cake box is 216/18, which equals 12. Two of the dimensions of an individual cake box are known, it is 2 feet wide and 3 feet tall. This means the missing variable is the length, represented by 'w' (because of a typo). This means the equation for the volume of a cake box can be written as 12=2x3xw, which can be changed to w2x3)/12. With some quick division, we can calculate 12/2=6 and 6/3=2, thus proving that w=2, that my math is right, and that Phoenix Wright is perfect in every way. Hope you enjoyed the math lesson!

And now deviant art ruins my math lesson with emoticons. 'w' is not sad, it is just w = (2x3)/12.

I LOVE this. So glad you're feeling better, because this is just awesome.
The concept is funny, and then the perspective is good for the shot, and the icing on the (corn) cake is Pinkie's expression.
Speaking of which, I was wondering how you get the perspective/proportions so accurately on the ponies. Do you eye it, or something else?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
TopGull In reply to BerylliumArt [2013-09-08 07:05:29 +0000 UTC]
The short answer is that I eyeball it most of the time, but if it's unfamiliar or exaggerated (like Pinkie's face here) I'll typically look up a reference and use it as a guide. Β I also spend a lot of time tweaking lines into exactly the right shapes. Β Setting down good guidelines is key to getting the rest of the proportions right, though.

BerylliumArt In reply to TopGull [2013-09-08 07:40:48 +0000 UTC]
Wow...You're reallyΒ good to just be able to eyeball it! For my entry the other day I had to go in and pose some models in Blender to find out how the perspective went.
It'd be SO awesome if you could post one of your sketches...but only if you want to.
