Shame. Hundreds of people must've died here, but millions of more died in the gas chambers. This must disgust the normal and loving person.

By the way, awesome photo.

It's hard to tell if it was more disturbing then, or now. Obviously then but, it's so desolate now and bleak. There would have been buildings and people around then, maybe a little hope, don't know really....

It was certainly awful then, but it is still disturbing to see it now. Yes, it is looking very desolated, maybe it is done on purpose... To tell you the truth, I don't know if I would have to courage to go there and feel what so many people have endured.
I think you are right, buildings and people around would have shown a little hope for the human beings behaviour.

B&W is effective for the mood this place exudes. I would like to see it in colour too.

Hey mate, great shot.
I've been to Auschwitz twice now and each time it still gives me the creeps.

My grandfather went there for hiding jews in his house (my mum is Polish) and thankfully my grand-dad got out.

Here is one image I did a few years ago after i went there. Memories Of Auschwitz .
I photoshopped out about 8 people and had to fake the background in some places.
____

Anyway, really good shot. love the contrast in the ground, there's so much depth in it.

Thanks a lot. I've beem 4 times now and I still feel the same as when I first went there. I've taken a bit more time and care with my most recent photos (which are the ones on dA so far) just to try and convey some of the spirit and atmosphere of the place. Guess your grandad was one of the lucky ones, alyough he might not see it that way. I like your photo how'd you get that streaked effect?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CorporalNobbs In reply to TonyPringle [2009-02-23 01:31:41 +0000 UTC]

yes, I believe my grandfather felt good about it. (he passed away awhile ago now)

In fact i'm quite sure he didn't regret it at all.

The streaked effect is under filters in PS, it's a film grain filter I believe. Make sure you put it on a separate layer, or do it right at the end of your editing, if you look at my image you'll notice that the film grain is cut here and there... that's because I realised i still had some editing to do but I had applied the filter already... haha
