hey thomas, great work mate..could i ask you something? Do you scan your photos or do you take photos of them? If it's the 2nd one, would you bother telling me how does one take good photos of their artwork?

Hey...
I stopped using my scanner when I stopped inking my work a few years back. The scanner is too bright and destroys all the subtle pencil tones. About 3 years ago I started using my iphone to photograph everything. I have an old iphone 4s that I stick on top of a lit cardboard box. Its almost a DIY scanner but I can regulate a much softer light.
That wasnt ideal and if I wanted to really capture my pencils in the best way possible I would need an upgrade. Last year I wanted to get a real camera set up and following this article off the fantasy art blog muddy colors
muddycolors.blogspot.com/2012/…
purchased a tripod, dslr camera, lighting boxes set up.
I can get a really high 600 DPI raw image of all my artwork in case I ever want to make banners or posters of the images with little image degradation at those large sizes. Most of my poster sales are 30 X 20 at 300 DPI and look sharp even up close. I could make 6 foot banners and from a distance would look really sharp.
I will never use a scanner again, it seems photography tech gets better every year but scanner tech seems the same from the last 20 years.
