More power to Peter Parker and all the fans. I followed the 1990s show,enjoy the campy '70s drama, the second movie was better than i thought and the old '70s tokusatsu 'Spider-man' has always been intriguing as h3ll @ [link]

..but by the late 1990s ..

..tOkKa was starting to think that he hated the Spider-man. Really tho' i was gettin' to care about it all less & less. Burn out~~- -

For some reason..i was able to mangle up 5 volumes of the Ryoichi Ikegami's (Mai, the Psychic Girl,Crying Freeman,Heat..ect.) Spider-man between 1995 & 1997. Stories a decade or 2 older than what i was reading at the time.. a much darker version of Spidey :: violent,psychological,gory, maddening..and heavy. The kanjis in these volumes vibrated ..the R.I.'s illustrations and stories warped familiar villains like Lizard and Mysterio.. and well into the stories they became even darker and seemingly more psychological. A variation of very familiar themes that enthralled me to hell and back !! I'm toast at time of this typing so i'll be cheap but i'll rip a current Wiki description.. @ [link] ::

'Spider-Man: The Manga is a manga written and illustrated by Ryoichi Ikegami which basically retells the story of Spider-Man in a Japanese setting. It was originally published in Japan from January 1970 to September 1971 in Monthly Shonen Magazine and was one of two Marvel Super-Heroes to receive their own Japanese manga stories in the early 1970s, the other being the far less well-known Hulk: The Manga, which has never been reprinted.

A high school student named Yu Komori (-- Komori,Yu) is bitten by a radioactive spider, which gave him spider-like powers. Yu faces Japanese versions of villains such as Electro, the Lizard and the Kangaroo. Yu also has an Aunt May (her name is "Mei"), and the publisher of the Joho newspaper is a counterpart to J. Jonah Jameson.

Initially, Ikegami both wrote and drew the stories. On completion of the 6th story, Kazumasa Hirai became the writer, while Ikegami continued to provide the art. The first few stories featured analogues to some of the US Spider-Man's villains and supporting cast, while maintaining an altogether more moody atmosphere. Later stories as written by Hirai departed even further from the source material, and included scenes of sexual and gruesome imagery of a kind not seen in the original US Spider-Man comics.

To date (*2007), the only English-language versions of the stories as released by Marvel Comics themselves were published across 31 issues from December 1997 to April 1999 it appeared Only 7 out of the 13 Japanese stories in total were fully translated, with several notable edits to remove some of the violent scenes (*Note::.. the translations were HEAVILY edited and as the stories continued and became more mature..the editing & censorship on these issues increased. I count these translations as far 'less' than the original forms: the collected novels ..ect. that one can obtain. I question if this was major factor in the conclusion of the run on the U.S. translation.~tOkK). The final issue (#31) began the translation of the 9th story, but was left incomplete by the title's cancellation.'

After this refreshing exposure to Spidey .. i was hooked. All manga related Spidey books i've kept and the remainder of the non- including my classic books were given to a good friend and Spidey-fan as a gift.

In retrospect i figured out.. i didn't really hate the Spider-man icon at all .. it was Peter Parker i got burnt out on. Now i can tolerate state-side Spidey-fandom.. but i am immune to Spidey-mania. Nothin' wrong with it..i respect it all hardcore..

.. i just don't connect to Stan Lee & Co.'s traditional interpretations of a 'Super Hero' despite varying evolutions within' the past several years.

.. Kinda like i am madly in love with Fleischer Studios classic Superman shorts. Outside of that ..even Superman's Return was 'ok'..but not much connection.

Contradictions in this view may arise due to my involvement & love with the TMNT ..while there are definite parallels ..there are also great differences. Perhaps the Turtles just struck a chord with me entirely because it's all been so personal for so long.

Perhaps Yu is on an entirely different tier with me as far as characters go. He's one of my all time favourites.

Yu Komori IS Spider-man ..for tOkKa and maybe others. Globally in the 21st century ..while Peter Parker being the original and most famous version of the icon .. (all this is to the credit,compliment,universality, and flexability of the creation).. there have been many different incarnations of the character and takes on Peter over the decades..

& i think that's my whole point on the Icon of 'Spider-man'.

"With great power comes great responsibility."

.. the famous phrase is universal for all the titles. Including Yu's Universe.

.. the universe as a whole (?!)..

..i think so.. hope so.
