I liked TTYD but the fans keep thinking this game is the best game ever and every other game sucks. They're also throwing a fit of the new Paper Mario game because it looks like sticker star and thinks it's gonna suck cuz it looks like sticker star. Not a big fan of sticker star but not every game needs to be TTYD 2.0. It's like Melee fanboys wanting Smash bros melee 2.0. Give the new game a chance. Sure it looks like Sticker Star but you haven't seen more of it yet.

The fanbase for Paper Mario made me hate Thousand Year Door. Theyβd never let me hear the end of it if I played it the whole way through, and said it was worse than Color Splash, where Super and Sticker Star are my top two favorite games in this series because of how much like they feel like actual Mario games. Sticker Star especially with the Mario & Luigi series.

Not really. You do realize these same people who love TTYD also like SPM and 64 right? They aren't just one singular unit, I don't understand why people constantly feel the need to group them as one. And to be honest, why is hating the game for being another Stinker Star a problem? Sure people can like the game, and yeah I do agree hating people who like the game is wrong and people do have rights to what they want to like. But really, the Stinker Star engine is terrible. It also doesn't help that Color Splash is just a slightly altered Stinker Star with the only different being that the writing, music and charm is good. Everything else remains mediocre or average.Β
Honestly I think only the gameplay portion of the game needs to come back. I think that's where people's main drawbacks lie with the new installments. It has nothing to do with people actually wanting the game to be like TTYD from the ground up, but more of they want the game to play like it because the gameplay portion of the game was refined. Or most polish. In fact whenever you see people complain about the gameplay TTYD's gameplay is often the only thing people note they want, so the whole "TTYD 2" thing comes from gameplay really. it's also kinda contradicting to want a Stinker Star 2, but rail on another side from wanting the same.Β
TTYD has flaws obviously. Such as the obnoxious backtracking in Chapter's 4, the first half of Chapter's 5 and 7. And the RNG/Stage Hazards, but there's really not anything else wrong aside from being easy, but honestly every game in the series is easy, so it's not just a criticism to TTYD. Something Color Splash defenders use against it, even though Color Splash is debatably easier. Even 64, Super Paper Mario and Stinker Star had backtracking too. There's the Apple Hunt in SPM, as well as Chapters 4 and 5. And Chapter 6 in 64. Stinker Star was loaded with this. Honestly I think defenders are just as bad as haters and I question what most of them liked about the series in the first place. Paper Mario was never a flawless series and every game has issues, but honestly I think TTYD is only wanted so much because of the polished gameplay style, it's the only ever thing brought up. Which is understandable. I actually don't prefer TTYD over every game objectively. I do prefer the gameplay style the most of every game, as well as the characterization and presentation. But I do like things in 64 better than TTYD at the same time, and the story in SPM. Stinker Star and Color Splash don't even feel like Paper Mario games at all, they're just typical Mario Plaformers with a different skin, the games use way too many boring Mario tropes.Β

anytime they say the soundtracks the best Mario have ever done, I have to point them towards the galaxy series, M&L Partners in Time, and Dream Team.

I love TTYD, but yeah I agree. It gets way too much hype. Sticker Star was a disappointment IMO. My favorite Paper Mario game believe it or not is the 1st one on the N64. Not only did it feel more like a Mario game than TTYD did, but I love the overall atmosphere of it. The storyline wasn't too dark (which was something I felt that TTYD did a little), and I love the party members (with Lady Bow and Watt being my personal favorites from the game). TTYD had great party members too, but yeah.
I love personally Vivian, she was my personal favorite from TTYD. Not only was she cute and had great character development, but I found her to be the most useful of the party members. But I understand where you're coming from.
