Hi, good evening, and a happy birthday shout to you in advance. Greetings from about a hundred miles down the coast from you. You have so many spectacular works in your gallery. It's too hard to choose (I think there's another one of yours floating around my faves somewhere), so I threw a dart. I know you work hard at your art, but make it look so free and easy -- like breathing, right? Well, thank you for all of it. Thank you especially for being selfless and sharing your artistic knowledge, techniques and insights in such a warm and casual way. There's always something I can learn from looking at your stuff. Wishing you another year ahead filled with inspiration, creative production, many moments of grace, more fun than you can handle and maybe even some money.
Best regards,
Ed

I was going to spend some minutes thanking you for those eye-opening magical tips but now I'm just gonna go rewatch all of Miyazaki's movies and sob while failing to take notes of how the children's proportions work.
(No but really thank you so much lol)

I actually remember my art teacher telling me this....5 years... and I just started to attempt drawing children. She'd be mortified of the distorted adult children I have been drawing. After reading yours and then looking at mine in comparison...I'm also mortified XD. Great insight like to look at this later on as a reference.

good and simple tutorial but the "feminine manchild" bit could be borderline offensive

Deznok In reply to Temporal-Apparition [2013-08-07 02:01:07 +0000 UTC]
No it's not. What you see is "offensive" is acquainted by the factors of A) preconceived notions and or B) misinformed judgement.
My "African American" friend got "offended" because someone called him "black". I was confused because I've seen other people of the same ethnic background being called "black" was not phased at all. It wasn't even said in a derogatory way. I'm pretty sure the artist didn't say that in a derogatory way either. It's like someone calling my shirt "Red" i was being offended for that person mentioning that it's red. The artist is right, it does looks like feminine man child. Get over it with your "Cis scum check your privilege" tumblr bullshit.

Temporal-Apparition In reply to Deznok [2013-08-07 20:22:35 +0000 UTC]
Alright. Maybe "offensive" was the wrong term. How does "completely wrong and ignorant" sound?
This has nothing to do with race, and this has nothing to do with whether the artist intended it to be offensive. The term that the artist used was wrong, for several reasons.
There isn't anything wrong with being "feminine", even though that word shouldn't have been used. "Androgynous" is the word that describes a person who looks neither feminine or masculine. "Man child" commonly refers to adult men who behave like children (see: bronies, furries) instead of... a masculine child??? I'm really not sure what the artist was trying to say, but they could've said it without looking like they were bashing androgyny. Even if they don't like androgynous / "feminine" guys, there is no need to be like that. I personally cannot find anything attractive in big muscular men, but I would never put something like "Don't draw too much muscle definition on guys because it makes them look like a big homoerotic wrestler ewww" in my art tutorials.
I am in no way associated with Tumblr's social justice. Do not make wild assumptions. They never get you far.

And this conversation can go on and on like Sisyphus. YOU being Sisyphus pushing up the fucking boulder and the boulder only leads back to the ground where you started. You would be more offended and find ways to push your "making fun of feminine men is bad" agenda and trying to make yourself look smart by air fresh-ing the mountain of fucking bullshit you are spewing out of your ass.

Temporal-Apparition In reply to Deznok [2013-08-08 00:38:14 +0000 UTC]
The only one who is offended and dragging the conversation on is you. You could just accept that you were wrong, but instead you decided to throw a temper tantrum.

"this has nothing to do with race"
I've used race as an example to describe how out of proportion you taking this "feminine manchild" statement as the subject of race can be taken into out of proportionate levels
"This has nothing to do wether the artist intended it to be offensive"
You make it seems like it was the artist intent to offend you. I was giving out the benefit of the doubt that maybe the artist put that there to be humorous and not trying to be offensive.
"There isn't anything wrong with being feminine"
No one said anything about the feminine appearance being wrong. And you're saying that I'm making assumptions. Cot dayum.
"Man child commonly refers to adult men who behave like children (see: Bronies, Furries)"
So, it's offendable to you that someone put "feminine man child" but you are perfectly fine labeling two subcultures by describing them as "man children". You're kinda shitting where you are talking and that's bad. (You're being a hypocrite).
"But they could'veof said it without looking like they were bashing androgyny"
and I'm the one making wild assumptions. Yeah yeah yeah. Like the artist made the tutorial and said to himself "I'm doing this to bash androgyny, it's not like I'm doing this to help people disgunish features of men and children. That's silly"
"even if they don't like androgynous/ "feminine" guys, there is no need to be that way"
Are you a 12 year old? Are you a troll? No one could be this dense and fucking stupid. THE ARTIST DIDN'T EVEN MADE FUN OF "FEMININE" LOOKING MEN IN THE FIRST PLACE
And then you go on a rant about you not liking muscular men and how you would never be offensive towards the things you wouldn't like, like wise: Muscular men. And then you state how you are not associated with tumblr social justice system. I think you would fit like a glove with them from reading all this fucking insipid ignorance. Oh my god.

Temporal-Apparition In reply to Deznok [2013-08-08 00:37:03 +0000 UTC]
Calm the fuck down. All I ever said was that "feminine man child" was completely incorrect and they could've used a different term. There was absolutely no need to start PMSing all over me and start yelling "troll" and "12 year old.
If you get this angry over a few words I suggest you leave the internet. You might hurt yourself.

Thanks, I will keep it all in mind! I heard you and agree with the need to respect any character, no matter their age. If the creator doesn't love and recognize what's special about their unique traits and 'deviation from the standard', I don't see how anyone in the audience would either.
