Description

Found the old PSD from 2007 and decided to improve it somewhat. Way better now from my point of view. What do you think?

It's hard for me to chose which I think is best, the original old PSD from 2007, or the "improve it somewhat" new look.

I'm going to have to say I like both. To me, they both are great work.

vandervast [2019-01-24 03:24:03 +0000 UTC]

I feel like the composition and flow on the original was better in certain areas.

In the new version, the bottom part of the image doesn't quite harmonize with the rest.
The upper three quarters of the image have some blues and purples mixed in with reds and oranges, nicely complemented by darks and brights; And a big bright star that *seems* like it should be the focus of the image. But then at the bottom you have a *big* bright, highly saturated area with minimal color variation that keeps taking the focus away.

Making the horizon perfectly straight was also a step backwards in my opinion. You have a bit of a motiff of round shapes going (planet, its moon, and the center of the star), but the perfectly straight horizon kind of breaks that motiff and combined with the issue I mentioned earlier - it feels almost as if it's two completely unrelated images lightly blended together at the seams. The subtle curvature of the horizon in the original image harmonized with other shapes better in my opinion.

In short, somewhat poor use of values hurts the composition and flow.

Pretty good work overall though, the idea is solid and execution is still pretty good. *thumbs up*

This is really solid. I think that overall this is certainly a much more polished piece than the 2007 version, but nebula that's distant in the 2007 piece is quite nice (again, for that piece specifically) given the emptiness of space in the rest of that art. Still, this is amazing, and I love seeing intricate galaxy-rise-esque pieces. Keep it up and thanks for sharing!
