Taken at Cleveland Botanical Garden - Cleveland OH - For Orchid Mania 2012, This Side of Paradise

I look forward to Orchid Mania every year, because each time I go, I am amazed by new orchids I've never seen before, see some of my favorites, and always look forward to the orchid that smells like chocolate. This is my last photo from the first visit and I admit to having a bit of love for the purple orchids, growing up purple was my favorite color and I like splashes of it here and there when it's a very organic purple. Like the purple of orchids!

Orchids are not only diverse in shape and size, but also in habitat. They are found in the depths of the hottest, most humid rainforests and then there are some that have been found on the peaks of the Andes completely encased in ice, then flourished as the sun melted it. I've even run across wild orchids along the banks of the Cuyahoga River in the valley in the summer, which was a surprising treat.

And for the record, "violaceous" is a real word!
