Description
This is probably one of the simplest photos I've taken for still life, almost going back to my beginner days. The difference is that I understand lighting a lot more this year than I even did last year and this time. All I had was a tripod and ambient light from the tree and a kitchen overhead light reflected around a wall to give some diffusion. But all in all I really like the simplicity to it and the soft light and shadows.In post production all I did was sharpen it up a little and correct the white balance which I couldn't get to my satisfaction with pre-set settings in the camera.

Hehehe I DO. Just to show you, this photo here: [link] was taken at ISO 1250. My D80 was nice but if I tried shooting at ISO 1250 with it you'd see a lot of grain. In this photo, I would have looked at this photo and thought it couldn't have been more than ISO 400....

In my opinion even with my newbie, I have little need for tri pod!!!! My ISO blows away the d60!!!!!!

I'll trade! It's freezing with lots of snow on the ground and I spend 80% of my evenings stretched out in front of the fire (the other 20% is bathroom breaks and getting more wood LOL).

Thank you so much! Sometimes my Christmas shots can get a sort of busy with all the ornaments and lights and I think that the simplicity is what makes me happy with this too.
