Description THIS IS NOT MY ARTWORK! It is that of the great Elise Hurst and I just had to share it with everyone because I think these covers are so rich and evocative and unusual. The interlocking tree idea is fantastic, and I love the way Allen and Unwin [link] have the Book numbers ( Book I Book II Book III) incorporated in the O of each title.

As I said, Elise Hurst is the genius responsible for the artwork on each cover. If you would like some idea of the amount of thought that Elise put into these, check out her blog post where she details the process of working a triptych of designs which all link via the borders of trees. [link]

I adore Elise's attention to detail on these, she asked me tons of questions about the books themselves and I think her research really shines through in the sturdy medieval looking horses, the weapons, the atmosphere, and most of all the characters. Wynter is so close to how I see her in my head that it's spooky! I love the depictions of Razi and Christopher in the final cover and I'm just thrilled that Elise has Wyn carrying Razi's falchion sword ( it’s such a lovely subtle symbol of some of the themes in the final book.)

Hope you guys like them – I’ve stitched all three together here so that you can see how amazing it looks tiled.

Isn't it though? I love Elise Hurst's work. Would love to have her do another cover of mine - or maybe illustrate something for me.

Darn those singular planktar. Why don't they just stick to the pelagic zone and baleen us all alone?

I absolutely love these covers. They are on the Australian editions. Even though I could have ordered the Rebel Prince earlier from the UK, I waited the extra months so at I could get them all the same. Probably my favourite covers ever. Just a reflection of how amazing your books are and how much I love them!!

I have a standalone ghost story coming out next year and I'm working on a Victorian sci-fi/supernatural story at the moment. I also have a couple more Moorehawke books planned, but they're not written yet

when i bought the Rebel Prince I ran to the table and laid all three of them out just to see the effect (it was a little weird because the Crowded Shadows is a fair bit longer than the other two ) I love those covers

CS is a bit smaller than the others isn't it? I originally had the books broken up into even sections. So there are quite a few scenes in CS which were originally in RP. The publishers ( quite rightly, I think) distributed the breaks differently. This made RP about 10thou words shorter than it originally was (and meant I had to cut a similar amount from the original edition of CS)

I know it looks funny when the books are laid side by side, but I wasn't prepared to add to RP just for the sake of size. Everything in the books as they are now means something or is there because it adds to the story and if I had added anything more it would have been just padding - so I left it at the size it is

I think the way that the books were cut added the right suspense to the story (even if it left me chewing my nails after CS waiting for RP to come out). And RP was just right the way it was, anything else and some parts of it might have dragged whereas the pace is just right
