Description Princess Kumatora from Mother 3, or as I call her, Tigabear (Kuma = bear, Tora = tiger). imo the fan translation team should have made some attempt to give her an English name along these lines, but most people prefer Kumatora. Still, if they're going to translate everything else, like "Yoshikoshi" --> "Violet", why not this? You lose so much of the feel of the name if you don't know what it means-- it just becomes another foreign name.

I read somewhere that they changed Tamechi (or whatever it was; I forget) and Yoshikoshi to Lucky and Violet, because the original names couldn't fit into the spaces for naming Duster and Kumatora, and there's a trick where you can name them their aliases so they use their real names as their aliases.

Any idea why Kumatara named her alias after a talking dinosaur a plumber rides like a horse anyway?

I don't think that way. To me I think you lose something by changing a character's name in most cases (unless it's something like a title for a group, like the God Generals in Tales of the Abyss, which I can't remember the Japanese for for the life of me), and it's a bit of an insult to the creator(s). I prefer looking things up and knowing the origins of a name to having to put up with it changed. It's not that hard tto get the pins if you read about it. There's a lot of english/other common names that you wouldn't know the meaning of anyway. I'm someone who's picky enough that I'll even say Gyiyg to someone who might not know that it was the original spelling of Giygas' name. It actually bugged me that they did end up changing Yokuba, since I (and a lot of other people) were used to the name. I can deal though, I just read Yokuba anyway. It doesn't hurt the fan translation's quality at all.

They actually only changed Yoshi-koshi because of hacking limitations. If you named Kumatora Yoshi-koshi in the game, she'd be called Kumatora when she was Yoshi-koshi. For the fantranslation, Yoshi-koshi obviously wouldn't fit, so they had to change it to keep that little extra possible.

Aaanyway, this is really cute. I love how it seems very mock sprite-ish.

"Kumatora" does kinda sound cool.

This is one of your more simple works, but it's still very good. Nice job.

Thanks. The simple style of the sprites made me think simple was more appropriate.
