Description This is Ohno from Mighty Orbots ( [link] )! I've been finding more people know about this cartoon than I originally thought would. But Mighty Orbots was a neat cartoon series that took the whole "5 robots merge into one big robot" theme and added it's own clever twists to it. You might yawn at yet another Voltron wannabe (Though these robots were actually self-aware sentient beings and not piloted), but the series was very fun to watch and had some concepts in there that I have yet to see in ANY other animated series. Ohno, being the child robot character, was ironically the boss of the 5 robots (though she made six, she didn't "merge" like the others... though she was the key to activating the larger robot). Bossy though she was, she was still my favorite character in the series. And yes... her name has meaning. She often said the phraze "Oh no!": "Oh no you don't, Rob! You just had lunch a few minutes ago!" or "Oh no! The power circuits are offline!" ....fun times. Anyhow, hope you enjoy!

Makes me wonder if this cartoon made it's way back over to Japan (It was genuinely an American cartoon, but with Japanese animation staff... one of the few co-ops of it's time). If it has, maybe there's some manga of it out there somewhere... would be worth finding out.

This show was animated by the mighty TMS studio! Probably the best in hand drawn TV animation. (They also did Bionic 6). This piece is really nice and on Model. Great job. Now let's start a petition to get the shows on DVD!

That explains why it's based on GodMars in a good but official way. *Scratches head*

Thanks for the info! And DVD? Yeah right... not likely. But we can hope. Here's the one website I've seen dedicated the show, though: [link]

Bionic 6, eh? I'll have to look into that... thanks for the compliment! And that's an old pic. Maybe some day I'll do a better one...

Thanks for the link. I doubt it'll ever come to DVD because so few people know about it. I do for vote it on TVshowsonDVD.com. I have a set of the 13 episodes that I had gotten off of eBay but some of the episodes quality are horrible. Anyway, you have a great gallery of stuff!

This picture is made of awesome and 80's nostalgia.
Sadly, so VERY few people remember this show. It's pitiful. Hopefully, the doujin me and some friends of mine are producing might help boost Orbot-awareness. XD

Great job on the pic, dude.

This brings back a lot of memories.
I had completely forgotten about this show until suddenly a day or so ago I had an image of this very character pop into my head.
I spent a few days looking for pictures of robots, trying to fins out what the characters name was or the name of the show. And tonight I finally found out.

So of course I had to do a search here on DA. Great work.

An Orbots fan! And I thought I was the only one!
I remember an episode where Rob wanted onions on his sandwich and Ohno scolded him and he said he was going to reprogram her to say "Oh Yes" and she said Oh no to that. Aaah, Ohno!
Not much Orbots stuff online... That link you've got here is great, other than that I've only found one decent site but unfortunately I cant find it now!

Actually, he was eatting a huge sandwich that woud make Dagwood envious, and Oh-No scolded him because he had already had today's lunch.

Rob: I know. This is tomorrow's lunch.
Oh-No: Oh, no! (Grabs the megawich before Rob can take a bite out of it. Rob begins to chase her around the room.)
Rob: All you ever say is, "Oh, no!"
Oh-No: It's not MY fault. You built me!
Rob: Right. To HELP me, not to NAG me!
Oh-No: Oh, no! YOU programed me!
Rob: I sure did. (gets out a screwdriver from his labcoat pocket) And now I'm gonna REprogram you into saying, "Oh-YES!"
Oh-No: OH, NO! (Panics and runs from the room, flinging the sandwich straight up in the air. Rob catches it in one and, plate and all, and grins.)
Rob: Works every time! (He prepares to take a bite of Lunch #2, but is interupted by Bo and Boo's music program.)

Rob never does get to enjoy that sandwich! ;D

Unfortunately someone I knew was pompus. Name was Rob.
Fortunately from that, he found a bootleg DVD set of Mighty Orbots. And I saw the series.
Now if it wasn't for Gobots suing this toon... it would have flourished to one sweet phenom.

Ah hell. Cute pic though.

Gobots sued them? What for?

PoKeHybridTrainer In reply to Timothius [2005-04-04 12:20:41 +0000 UTC]

Five robots merging together... They nailed MGM (animation company for Mighty Orbots) for copyright infringement. Sadly they won the suit. That is what stopped the series years ago... A cease and desist order. : /

Timothius In reply to PoKeHybridTrainer [2005-04-05 16:27:48 +0000 UTC]

What makes that especially sad is that there must be dozens of other animated series that have the whole 5-bots-into-one. Transformers and Voltron are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sertain there are others... anyhow. I wonder how much it'd cost to buy the rights to Mighty Orbots now that it's discontinued and rarely bought...

PoKeHybridTrainer In reply to Timothius [2005-04-07 00:27:59 +0000 UTC]

With Hasbro not monopolizing the 5 robot fusion genre... It depends really. Ultimately if nothing else can be done to buy the rights from MGM, nothing can stop Flash Movies.

Man, I remember this show, even found some internet stuff on this a few years ago, I even still remember little bits of some epps. Best of all, it was AMERICAN made, and not Japanese, so you can't exactly say 'another Voltron ripoff. If I remember correctly, this was out before Voltron, but that's just a guess.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Timothius In reply to AtariRaccoon [2005-02-09 10:14:14 +0000 UTC]

Well yes and no. It was a joint project. You had the Japanese team up with an American company. Sure, it was made here (and shown here first before being shown in Japan), but it was animated by mostly a Japanese crew. It was one of those rare projects that joined the two country cartoon styles into one (Little Nemo in Slumberland being another such project, I believe). So you CAN say it had it's anime roots... but you can also say it had it's American roots too.
