Hey. First, I like this one. ItΒ΄s an awesome contrast, because she is smiling, really happy, but everyone can see her bleeding feet. Creates mixed up feelings, because if someoneΒ΄s feet are bleeding, he/she is supposed to feel pain --> but the little girl seems to feel no the pain, or does not give a damn about.
The composition of light: looks like the girl is a tower of light in a darkened world, because the back of the pic is dark and gloomy.
Do not know where you from, but thereΒ΄s a german fairytale about a little girl, Karen, who is really poor and so aint got no shoes. But when she gets shoes she started to dance and can not stop, until she asks someone to took of her feet with her shoes. Finally, her soul gets up to the sky where nobody cares about her shoes.

Thank you so much for your kind words!
I am not familiar with the story of Karen, but that is exactly what I had in mind as I worked this piece. I shot the photo at a wedding, then as I edited it I imagined a little girl so content that she dances her feet bloody.

I put blood on them in my photo editor. It's supposed to be a fantasy, like she dances until her feet bleed and then wore the blood like a trophy, like she was proud of being mischievous.

I want to respond to this, but I'm having a hard time putting it into words...I'm a mother and as such I've tried so hard to keep my daughter safe and unharmed while letting her flourish and succeed. And while I understand your vision of the child's pride in her tenasity, the caretaker in me recoils from the blood and the implied wounds...I don't know how you could show it differently but this way it makes me feel anger at her mother for not protecting her...

Thanks Gerrit! Maybe I can change that in a later version.

Thanks! What if she also had blood smeared on her hands and face? Too morbid?

Since I was a ballerina a hundred years ago, I can relate! BUT I think I would approach it artistically and leave out the blood. Just a suggestion: slumped on the ground/floor, clearly exhausted, but the hint of a smile and a sparkle in the eyes; hair a tinsy messed and gown a little torn. Hmmm?

Thanks Sharon! I'll keep that scenario in mind the next wedding I shoot. I only have a few pics of her dancing.

Its a pretty cool idea, but perhaps you could modify the girl herself in some way, to show how determined and proud she is, or just more morbid. *lol*
It doesn't seem complete with just the blood on her feet and dress

Thanks! I did a version with blood on her hands and face but it seemed too much for a pic of a child. Maybe I'll try that later.
