Basic Human Head Tutorial Part 1: Layout

This is one basic method for drawing the human head. I designed it for beginners, and I go step-by-step through three views: front, three-quarters front/side, and profile (side). The media I used for this tutorial are pencil and paper. I show and describe each step, then at the end I show all the steps together without words. This tutorial is continued in two parts, male and female, which can be found in my gallery [link] , along with basic tutorials on the male torso and female torso.

Thank you, this will help with my character turn around I am making. I am making a turn around to put into 3ds max, but I need a character first. Like I tell others, for some reason I am horrible at drawing out the lines and skeleton for characters. Basically I have troubles posing characters. But if you give me a person or something else to draw, I can do it just fine....Thank you for this. I will put it to good use.

How do you measure how long the nose is? The book I have says eye and half. But really, how can you do that? Rip off piece of paper with that size. Any tips?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

timflanagan In reply to DryBonesReborn [2011-03-16 19:36:07 +0000 UTC]

You can use a ruler or put the tip of your pencil/pen at one corner of the eye and a fingernail at the other end and measure that way.

What book? And it totally depends on the face you're drawing and your drawing style.

I don't know how to do it using the current submission form. There used to be an option to have a separate image for the thumbnail in the older versions of dA. Sorry.
