Recently I stated that I would be starting work on a 'KH Fanworld' adaptation of my own original story, Legend of the Nephilim, as mentioned in my last Journal Entry [link] .The aim of the project was to create a new World and storyline to go with it in the Kingdom Hearts Universe, which could be used as a spin-off Doujin.
Rather than sticking with the Disney theme, I decided to use the World from my own story, Legend of the Nephilim. The characters are however receiving a full KH style Nomura makeover for the feature.
Think of it as how the characters from Final Fantasy make cameos at Hollow Bastion/Radiant Garden.
Since he is the main character of LotN, it only made sense that the first character's Nomura-style design I settled on was Skye.
He was definitely the easiest to do, he already had the KH look the way he was.
However all the armour and accessories he features in LotN dosn't fit the bill, so this is a simplified approach to his traditional wear.
An INSANE amount of work went into this image. The design and actual line-art were both easy to deal with, but the fact that it was on bad lined-paper made it a nightmare to clean up after scanning it in. I'm talking around 4 hours of erasing here people.
This extra effort has certainly payed off however, as this is some of the smoothest and most high-quality line-art that I have ever produced.
I've also got a very high resolution copy of it too, so I should be able to get this one digitally coloured.

scanned and edited in ArcSoft PhotStudio 5.5.
Skye is in copyright of me, along with the
story of Legend of the Nephilim so far.
All material related to Kingdom Hearts and
Final Fantasy are in copyright Square Enix.

The shoe size actually got put down a fair bit after the first game. Skye is only a little bit younger than Sora is in KH2, so his feet don't need to be very big -_^"

Not much of my own style here, infact its only my design (heavily Nomura influenced even then) and the arts. Everything else is pretty much in light of Mr. Nomura.

It's pretty hard, you really have to nail away at it for a while to get the hang of it.
And even then it only feels half-baked, as little nuances from your own style tend to screw up the illusion. That and you feel guilty for copying the crap out of someone for your own art T_T"

It's funny, he ended up getting the floaty look thanks to running out of room on the page I was drawing him on!

Yeah, I feel like I'm getting the hang of it. It's becoming second nature too now, I don't really need to think 'draw like Namura' anymore. At the same time though, that's kinda bad, as I don't wanna become an imitator. I think I'll try to limit it to FanArt etc.
