(this is the same person btw, this is just my current account) personally, I disagree with you massively. I've played skylanders for myself, I've watched all the trailers, I've seen the new releases- and honestly, activision is just doing what activision does best. Milking a cow that's already dead.
They've done this with assassins creed, COD, and also the last game in the los trilogy that for all intensive purposes kinda became a ripoff of god of war. Hell, it even had stolen recycled sounds from god of war in it.
The only reason Activision has kept skylanders going so long is because of how much money kiddies can pull out of there pockets for tiny figurines they put on their portals and later on in life will put them away and forget about them completely. If it weren't for the insane amount of cash they were raking in, skylanders would be long dead. And as for the story line, after this many games, it's honestly gotten old.Β
Another reason why I personally dislike skylanders is the gameplay. "But Dani! The game is meant for children!" you scream into the sky. Yes, it is, but you know a game that was also directed towards children? (technically it wasn't supposed to but it attracted a lot of them) the very first original spyro game. And I can tell you right now, that the original spyro game is much more immersive and difficult than skylanders will ever be to my knowledge. Skylanders is a tiring beat-em-up that repeats the same moves over and over again, and if you're about to die? don't worry! put a new character on the portal, you can never die now!
people like it so much because of the advertising and the addiction. players don't even realize the fact that they're spending money on a game that's essentially the same thing for 7 games in a row. The games and toys become collectors items instead of something that's actually appreciated for gameplay, because the gameplay is heavily watered down.
so, idk. That's my two cents.

okey activision keeps going with skylanders is because it is a succes & they love to make them & the figures, they enjoy there work
and there you said it yourself ''technically it wasn't supposed to but it attracted a lot of them'' try to find a game who was Original planned for kids and has more difficult controlls than skylanders
and about the die thing you can die in the game if all your figures are dead you have to restart the level all over again
and sure you can finish the game with only the starter pack but try to beat the final boss with only 3 / 2 figures

guess what skylanders is.
E10+.
this means that spyro the dragon was for everyone, including very young players who albeit being young were not stupid and could figure out how to solve puzzles and play the game correctly without a tedious amount of in-game tutorials. Skylanders is 10+, which is even MORE sad, because the gameplay is horridly simple for it's audience which are supposedly people over 10.Β
You're misunderstanding my point. Yes, you can die in the game, but doing that is pretty damn difficult seeing as how easy enemies are to beat and how many toys you have. Let's be honest, nobody in the skylanders fandom or anybody who plays the games only has 2/3 figures. and restarting the level is hardly a punishment, all you have to do is rinse and repeat with your fully re-charged skylanders. Besides, the amount of times you die in a game should not make up for how easy it is, that's just displaying pure laziness on activisions part.Β

take a look at the newer games man
those have much more things in it
more difficult enemies (even if they are still easy)
jumping to make it a platformer
and each game has something in it wich makes them so much fun to play
sure spyro's & Giants don't have much
but swap force has characters who can swap there top & bottom half and also has mini-games with them
trap team has the traps to trap villains & play as them but the portal has a speaker in it wich makes the villains talk from the portal wich is so much fun
and superchargers has vehicles wich makes it so much more unique with racing (and even online against & withΒ others)

The irony of this is that you drew the first 2 Spyros in your own design, and then the Skylanders Spyro in your own design.

I remember Spyro being one of the very FIRST games I actually beat! After that I became a big fan of him for years (still am). It took me a bit to realized that when they made Skylanders, that the purple dragon there was SPYRO. Good grief he looks....They ruined him!
