So yet another example of a pic I drew ages ago XD Actually I first sketched it on the 9th of February, this year.The pred's design is based around one of my favourite sea creatures - the blue ringed octopus. And the prey is a merman... a merman with seaweed hair!
I got the idea for that because of the theory that mermaid legends and sightings may have begun or been fueled by sailors seeing seals playing in the waves, with seaweed on their heads. How a seal with seaweed on its head looks like a mermaid I will never know... :SBoth these character's designs are my own, so no stealing please.

Hehe yes, the same breed of octopi, the blue ring. I called him Zefire though ^_^ xD So yes..that is a tad odd to say the least

If it is one creature that creeps me out each time I go surfing it has to be the blue ringed octopus o.o That aside though, the facial expressions are quite fun and well done, as is the shading and the anatomy for each. Can't help but feel a tad sorry for the merman though, since that is a horrible tangle of a mess to end up in

I was thinking at first I would make him a micro character, since real-life blue ringed octopi are so small. But then I thought, well what the hell is he going to eat then? That's no fun!

Well, that's a pretty good point, but since he is based on the blue ring, but is human from the waist up, wouldn't that void the whole size issue? ... On second thought never mind. Logic has no place xD

What is it about octopus guys that are attractive? Is it that they have multiple tentacles hanging off their body? :3 Very awesome drawing! Poor kid, but still, very awesome.

A fine choice of octopus to use as a reference - they're sneaky and deadly : D I likes how you thought of the seaweed hair too!
