My late comment is very late. I love how this turned out <3 but for future owl drawings make sure to draw the eyes correctly; owls have pupils that are unable to move so they have to move their heads |D Although considering this is a cartoonist picture it looks fine.

Ah, I see what you mean XD
Perhaps his head doesn't merge into his body like a snowy owl's does, normally snowies (plus most owls) don't have much of a neck XD
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for next time I draw an owl C:

I love the Ga'Hoole books! Did you know that Kathryn Lasky came out with a new series, Wolves of the Beyond?

Ooh it would! Sadly, the cats in Spirit of Snow live nowhere near an ocean xD
You can feel free to use it, though, if you want C:

Thanks! C:
I'm not able to do very expressive beaks, without them looking really distorted XD

Wow this looks really good. Like I was stunned when I saw it. I'm afraid I know nothing about bird anatomy or anything so no critique here.
One thing I noticed:
On the left wing the shading in between the long feathers and the short feathers is a bit too deep. It makes it look like the short feathers are not laying smoothly against the long ones. I would suggest just pulling back and doing a little less shading right there.

Okay, thanks C:
That really helps with wings... I fail with lightsources XD
I'll be sure to remember that next time I do wings C:

I think you're light source might be fine, it's just that the shadow is too long.
If you have trouble with shadows I do have a quick suggestion that really helped me. Wait for it to be dusk so that it is dim inside your house, but not dark and get a desk light or flashlight. Grab different objects (particularly your dog/cat/animal if you've got one) and try shining the light on them from different angles. Just experiment and look.
Honestly I pretty much watched shadows/light sources whenever I got bored during class. Just looking in everyday life can gradually help you figure more out as well.
