EDIT: MADE IT *angel chorus*
IT WAS FOR SOMETHING
More or less ready for whenever the next opening is *bounces impatiently*
I wanted to go like full anthro or at least maintain Haunter's head spikes but every time I did he looked like a dapper Sonic the fluffing Hedgehog
So I just made them curls.
•Name: Charles Seager
•Age: 36/152
•Gender: Male
•Pokémon: Haunter
•Height: 6' 3"
•Weight: 127 lbs
•Nature: Calm
•Characteristic: Alert to sounds
•Ability: Levitate
He's a ghost type and has no feet, so this kinda goes without saying.
•Job: Musician
Though most of the time he provides music, he has his own act as a sort of organ grinder with feral Rattata and sometimes Mankey. He teaches them to dance and charm the crowd with a hurdy gurdy, and occasionally he can use their seemingly cute demeanors to 'misplace' a watch or two.
•Faction: Lune
•Wish: "I wish I could hear music again..."
Charles was devastated when he became completely deaf and was unable to hear his own concertos or listen to his wife sing. He wished to hear music again, and Mr. Dark was happy to oblige, but of course it came with a condition. Charles could hear his darling sing, hear the screech of his violin, hear the tinkling of his piano, but the world was still devoid of any sound when he tore himself away from his instruments. He had wished to hear music again, now music was the only thing he could hear.
•Voice:
ICANTFINDHISNAMEBUTTHIS
•Theme Songs:
(Will continue to update as I find appropriate songs)
Mikelangelo and The Black Seagentlemen- Struggle To Be Human
Laura Marling- Ghosts
Adrian H and the Wounds- I Owe My Smile
The Rohan Theatre Band- Big Shot
The Jane Austen Argument- Maintain the Madness
•Personality:
-Paranoid: While he can hide it pretty well most of the time, his past experiences as a minor celebrity have left him paranoid and distrusting of others he at first believes only want something from him. The only people he doesn't scrutinize off the bat are children, pets and old people. Or people he thinks are too dumb to try and manipulate him.
-Unempathetic: Charles has trouble identifying and describing his emotions, as well as identifying or appreciating the emotions of others. This does contribute to his somewhat cold attitude, as he may not understand he's doing anything wrong.
-Trickster: Even though he tends to be very serious, he's still a Haunter. He enjoys nothing more than popping out and scaring people, or following them around playing a soundtrack to their entire day.
-Brown Nose: He will suck up to authority like nobody's business, do whatever he can to please them, and sell out whoever needs selling out. But should his plans to bring you down not stick, he's not really bothered. If you don't hold a grudge, he won't care much about undermining you any further.
-Pompous/Patronizing: He's rather full of himself, always looking for a reason to be above someone else.
+Accepting: Gender, creed, skin color, physical appearance, he judges no one. Because you're all pions. More specific, he just judges everyone the same which is usually harshly.
+Well Mannered: He's nothing if not a gentleman. An underhanded, sly gentleman that sneaks insults into what appear to be compliments.
+Giving: He sees material goods as trivial, and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it and he is more or less comfortable with you. The only things he won't give up are his hat, cane, radio, and his instruments.
+Patient: He can put up with a lot of crap before he gets irked.
+Excellent Listener: Ironically, he's the perfect person to confide in. Unless he feels like undermining you, it's highly unlikely he'll tell what you say to anyone else, and he remains focused on a person at all times. This is mostly just to concentrate on lip reading, but it's still somewhat comforting.
•History:
(The first draft was kind of boring and long so I tried to cut down, but it's still long as balls )
Charles came from an aristocratic family of musicians, his Mother an opera singer and his Father a celebrated composer. They were far too busy with their own careers to worry much about him, so he spent most of his time with a little old Nanny, whom he loved as much as his little heart could. When his parents were away, she would sneak him into the music room and let him play. Surprisingly or maybe not so surprising, he had a real talent for the piano. He would play the songs his parents played which he knew by heart. He wanted to know how to play like they could. But when they were told of his talent, they really only brought him out to parties with them. While happy they were spending more time with him, he felt like a show pony when they dragged him out and paraded him around in front of a crowd of egocentric musicians and snob music critics, amused by the child whenever he tripped over a note.
Charles learned to play most of the instruments in the music room almost by himself, save the violin which his Nanny taught him. Outside of the occasional party, his parents weren't all too concerned with what he did in his spare time, he got good grades, didn't embarrass them, whatever he learned out of their sight was of little importance. It wasn't until their careers began to disintegrate that they decided to encourage him into the local music scene. More force than it was encouragement really.
He started playing at actual events, stage shows, he attended parties where he was an actual guest instead of an amusement for the real ones, for once he was in the spotlight and he loved it.
His Father wasn't so impressed.
Not to say he was a cruel man, Charles' Father, but he was a jealous type. The reason his career tanked was because he developed a neurological disease that caused his hands to shake and rendered him useless on just about every instrument. It killed him to see his son succeeding when he had been so casually thrown away by the public that once adored him. He took to drinking and making an ass out of himself whenever an opportunity arose. He even barged into one of Charles' recitals and drunkenly heckled his own son.
His Mother was no better. While she maintained her sanity at least, she was incessantly pushy, and surrounded Charles with people that only wanted to use him, her company included. She made him practice until he could play flawlessly, only allowing him breaks to sleep, eat, and attend a show.
The only saving grace of the whole ordeal was that he met a young Whimsicott (THIRD TIME I'VE CHANGED WHAT SHE WAS, I CAN'T FRICKING SETTLE), Annabel, who not only went to many of his shows, but was a singer herself and was cast in a few plays for which Charles provided music. He would always sneak away from his parents' before rehearsal to watch her getting ready. Sometimes he would leave gifts outside of her dressing room, or play a song he told himself was especially for her.
Of course he never said a word to her. The only way he was able to express his feelings was when she approached him with a revised music sheet for one of the plays they were in together, and needless to say he wasn't subtle. It's hard to be subtle and also blurt out your affection like someone just jabbed you with a cattle prod.
To his relief, she felt much the same, and the two began to see each other whenever they could steal away the moment. She would sneak in through his window when he was practicing, he would grab a peck on the cheek the second before the curtains went up. Charles never really had the courage to tell his parents about it, knowing his Mother would write the girl off as a distraction, or that his Father would embarrass him and drive her away. So for awhile they met in secret, tip toeing around his disaster of a family.
Years passed, Charles grew into a fetching gentleman and Annabel blossomed into a lovely woman. Only after his parents' passed away (His Father died of liver failure, his Mother from accidentally poisoning herself shortly after) did he finally let his relationship with Annabel into the public eye. He was actually happy for a change, only playing when he wanted to, not when he was dictated to. Even if others thought it oddly cruel, thinking he enjoyed that his parents had died. In reality, he just finally felt comfortable. Neither of them had been happy for a very long time, and their own unhappiness was making him suffer as well, it was simply easier for everyone with them gone.
Charles and Annabel married soon after the incident and were determined to put it behind them. And it would be easy, since they had a baby on the way. But things never went the way the child prodigy wanted.
Charles soon began to notice something wrong with his hearing. Every performance started to sound so distant, Annabel's voice wasn't as clear and bright as it used to be, and before long every sound was just a dull hum of white noise. This was the first time perhaps in his entire life he had been forced to sit in silence and it was more frightening than he could imagine. He had always been a neurotic, anxious person when left to his own thoughts and now they were the only things he could hear. Without any distraction he was forced to focus on every little thing wrong with him, his life, and it almost drove him mad. He started to suffer sudden panic attacks, even lashed out at his beloved wife. He tried to still play but only wound up frustrated, even if he knew the song by heart it just wasn't the same.
A frightening image of his Father began to emerge when he realized this would no doubt mean the end of his time as a musician.
Annabel, still very much in love with him, decided to try and brighten his spirits by taking him to a circus with their new born daughter. Of course it didn't do much. If anything it only made it worse and reminded him of his condition to be brought into a place full of uproarious sound. Towards the end of the night, he broke away from his wife and wandered into a darkened area of the circus, only to realize he'd stumbled into a music room. Dejected, he slunk against the piano at the head of the room.
”Do you play?”
Charles first glanced to the piano at which he sat, but his eyes darted back to the stranger that stood behind him when he realized he had spoken. And he had heard him.
”W-what?...I mean, yes... Or, at least I used to."
He gave the keys a pensive brush, brow knitting when he was met with silence.
”You can't hear them, can you? How sad a world that must be. To never hear another song. Hear a bird sing.”
”Could care less if I ever hear them again. Annoying pests in comparison to my wife...What I wouldn't give to hear her sing again... God, I wish I could hear music again...”
Charles didn't ask how the stranger knew about him being deaf, he didn't care to know. Mr. Dark simply gave a knowing smile. The second time his fingers rested against the keys, up came a note. He tried again, bewildered, and again the piano sounded off a crisp note. Soon the room was filled with a full blown concerto as Charles excitedly played, only to stop suddenly in the middle and leap from the bench to face Mr. Dark. He was about to thank him, but deflated slightly and eyed him with suspicion.
Instead of a thanks, he asked what he wanted in return for this gift.
Mr. Dark said he simply had to use his talents in the circus. Charles hesitated a moment, thinking of his Annabel and the life he would most likely leave behind should he agree. And it was only a moment.
He agreed eagerly.
•Likes:
Mr. Dark (not "like" so much as admire his calculated cunning)
Blues/Jazzy music
Black coffee
Pastries (he's surprisingly good at baking)
•Dislikes:
Naivety
Emotional/Talkative people
Silence
Confrontations
•Move set:
Destiny Bond
Shadow Claw
Sucker Punch
Hypnosis
•Extra:
-His favorite instruments are the piano, calliope (basically a piano), violin, accordion, and he can play a few songs on the flute.
-He can imitate different animals on his violin (I.E. wolves, birds , kittens, cows, bees) and sometimes uses this to tease people.
-The sound of the radio can be heard all hours of the day and night in his quarters, and he becomes distressed if something
happens to it. It, along with a painted kaleidoscope and his silver Mightyena headed cane, are his prized possessions.
-Charles has suffered from Sedatephobia (fear of silence) most of his life. Becoming deaf was just about his worst fear.
-He doesn't have very many dreams. The ones he does have aren't all that fantastic.
-He's not very strong, but he'll whack the shit out of you with that cane.
-He's learned to read lips pretty well in his years in the circus, however if you want to save him the trouble of understanding you, feel free to sing.

Maaaaaybeeeee? Charles isn't exactly "ok" with anyone, and I was thinking it'd be out of character for him to be so accepting of cross dressing, I mean yeah he's accepting of things that don't affect him directly that he can pretend don't happen, but he might not like it as much if it's directly in his face.

Thanks, glad you like him! I had a lot of fun designing him =W=
But just know that he WILL be pointing out every flaw in Willow's playing, it's kind of one of his ticks where he can't stand other musicians that play as good or better than him. Gets super jelly D:<
So he nitpicks the crap out of everything from their pacing to their posture. She might not like him as much as you do XD

Haha, if music is the only thing he can hear then I hope he doesn't mind Ocarina music because Gardenia tends to play it alot, even out of show. I hope we both get in so I can see that scenario.
Ah okay that makes sense. She has her own act, but it's just music and dancing so I guess she'd still be in Atelier. I dunno, I guess I have to ask the founder too.
