Thanks for the critique!
I'm glad you like the colors that I used for this piece! I have a habit of using striking and flashy colors, but I figured that softer colors and bright lighting would suit the image's atmosphere better.
I decided to use a simple background so that the main focus of the image would remain on Sahn and Mariciel. Also, a friend once advised me about not having too much unnecessary detail in my artworks, so I followed his advice on this piece and kept it relatively simple. Although very basic, I intended for the background to serve as a frame for Sahn and Mariciel's faces, so I'm glad you think that it complements the characters well. It means that I accomplished this goal more or less.
The softening of the image toward the bottom and the blurring of the background was actually an attempt to imitate depth of field and focus, as in photography. It's not too obvious but each element in the background was done on a different layer and actually gets blurrier the farther it is from the foreground. The rose petals in front of Sahn and Mariciel are also a bit blurred. I don't know if I succeeded in this, but I intended for the image to seem like a photo that captures a romantic, fairy-tale-ending moment (kind of like the ending screen shot you get at the end of some shoujo anime shows).
I actually agree with your comment about Sahn's hair as well. Anime characters tend to look similar (the male characters I draw tend to look alike too) and their most distinguishing features would be their eyes and eye color, and their hair style and hair color. One may still recognize a character even if you take away some of their trade mark accessories, or even if their body structure is changed a bit, but I may have taken away Sahn's "identity" or distinguishing feature by making his hair look too flat (but he still keeps his ponytail, though). I'll try to edit this if I can and make his hair closer to the original design while keeping the artwork in shoujo manga style.

Due to a recent craze, although this is beautiful, I am unable to see it as anything other than Nike and Livius (from "The World Is Still Beautiful". It's probably because of the hair. And the clothes). Curses.
But still, this is absolutely lovely. =] The lighting and the colors are relatively soft, which only adds to the airiness of the whole picture. It reminds me of chilly autumn mornings, with mist and fresh dew everywhere.

I'm generally not a fan of anime style but but I found this very pretty! The choice of color is soft, lovely, and fits the mood. Fantastic job on the fabric movement and placement of the petals and light shines. It really does come off like expert work and something you would find in a manga or anime show. It's beautiful work! I like the "about to kiss" moment you managed to catch.
