firstly, referenced used was a very nice photo indeed takenby $ewm and it can be found here [link]
I did this in about 40 minutes so It was a rather rushed job. I'm trying to refine my technique and use more of an exclusive cross hatch style. It really is much more efficient and worked rather well...though with the mane I kinda got a bit bored and did a pretty hacky job.
Considering the speed... I'm pretty pleased!

Is this pencil or ballpoint? I can't tell because it's kinda small, and when I zoom in on my Mac it gets pixelated. Nice work. What I hate about a lot of people on DeviantArt is that their ultimate goal is to make something look, "just like a photograph." I'm really glad that you embrace the beautiful fact that we're not making photographs, we're making drawings! ; )

Yeah hyper real stuff is cool but not as interesting I think, though I greatly admire people who can pull it off. I liked the DD review how he noticed the very same thing!

You should try pen. Just push lightly at first and your mistakes aren't visible in the end. The permanence of it is what's fun.
