Wow! This is so amazing! All the colours are so exact! I love all your adventure time things.

I'm just wondering, how do you keep your clay so clean?
I always clean my hands, work desk and tools but I always get little bits of dirt in it. Your work is always so spotless!

Thank you!!
Before I even touch clay, I clean my workspace..like a deep clean Haha I then wash my hands with warm water and soap. Dry my hands
and I use a glass dish thingy to cover my clay when Im not using it and my creations im working on. Also try not to over work/ touch your clay too much! During the process and im mixing colors and stuff I clean my hands with babywipes and of course my tools. I also NEVER place my tools/clay blocks anywhere near my work surface. Nothing touches it, unless its my clay creation(s).

Hope this helps (:

Aw thank you so much! This will definitely help me. I will buy some baby wipes soon.
I notice you say not to overwork the clay too much but my clay is quite hard and conditioning it takes a while so I think that is my main problem. I tried baby oil as someone recommended it but it made my clay greasy and my hands really stained. Are there any ways around this? (I understand that clay softener is quite good, but the ones available to me are quite expensive!)
But I'm sure that it will really help keeping your tips in mind anyway! Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know.

No problem (: I buy my baby wipes at DollarTree, no need to spend $$$ on brand name stuff

Yes, try not to overwork. (Another tip for the lint/dirt) Im pretty sure you have scrap clay so once your done cleaning your workspace. Play around with the scrap clay for a couple mins and even roll it around your work surface to pick up any left over lint/dirt.

As for conditioning clay, baby oil works great. You just have to know a little goes a LONG way. TIP: Dont buy clay softer from the stores because if you read the label it says its made from "Minieral oil." Which is in fact baby oil, so your basically buying baby oil but for more $$$ and a smaller size. Also never steam clay or anything that involves direct heat because you are slowly baking the clay and when it cools it gets even harder.

The way I soften my clay is, to put on a pair of gloves (laytex), grab a small glass dish, plastic wrap and baby oil.
1.)Gather everything
2.)Put on gloves, grab clay and put 2-4 drops of baby oil onto clay. (Depends on amount of clay, add drops one by one!)
3.) Mix & add if needed. (Once the texture is workable to your liking stop the mix & add process)
4.) Grab your glass dish/plastic wrap or container and place clay in there and let it rest, So the clay can absorb all the oils.

If you notice that your clay is still a bit hard repeat the process. This is how I soften my clay and its worked for me, I hope this helps If you need any more tips, just ask ^-^

Thank you so much! It's really kind of you to reply so quickly and in so much detail! I will try to minimize the amount of baby oil I use and I will use the glass dish soaking method too. Thank you a lot!

(I heard lint rollers for clothing work well for removing dirt from hands and worksurfaces, do you know if they are any good?)

Its my pleasure (: If you ever need anymore tips,
Im happy to help ^-^

Lint rollers? Hmmm. I havent heard/tried that before, but Im going
to now My guess...it might work great but I imagine the sticky stuff to run out quickly. Plus those things are kindea expensive, even at DollarTree you get VERY little for just a $1.00
I'll have to try it out and let you know :3

ThePetiteShop In reply to Sugarfloss9 [2013-02-28 17:34:48 +0000 UTC]

Hey (: I tired it and I didnt like it Its the fact that I have to keep touching the handle (more lint on my hands) and I think it does the same purpose as the scrap clay method. If I was to rate this method out of 5, I would say a 3 :3 Hope this kinda helps ^-^

Thank you so much for the quick reply! It's really nice of you to try it out and let me know your opinions! Ok, I will avoid this method then! I have a ton of scrap clay so I'll just use that
