Pan's Labyrinth was a interesting movie, but no, i'm talking about "Labyrinth" (1986), in a scene, Sara (the main character) falls into a hole full of hands, these hands do faces to talk with Sara

in this case I first made some traditional rough sketches on paper, then quickly draw the hands in DeluxePaint, filling it up with the basic colors. Next I took a mirror, two lightsources as a reference (the hands shown are my own hands) and start adding details. Finally the dithering comes in play, which is most time-consuming. After that small details, like the frame and finishing touches like the braille and the stylized sign language.

longer than most people think it takes, but not so long that it frustrates me. This piece: approx 5 till 6 hours. Luckely I do not use very big canvas sizes for my work, so it stays in that 'comfort zone'
