Merry Christmas! I made this yesterday on Christmas Eve becuase I didn't have any decent Christmas pictures up on DA. So I made one.
I hope you all like it. I've seem to gotten stuck in a water color fettish ( 
) I did this with pencil, pen and pencil water colors, and of course, water. This is Our Lady holding her Son Jesus with St. Joseph and the three archangels mentioned in the Bible (Michael, Gabriel and Raphael) in adoration around the Child. Michael has the golden hair and is dressed in blue and red; Gabriel has black hair and is dressed in red and purple; Raphael has red hair and is dressed in green.

I have no idea how I came by this, but I loved it! It's all so detailed and full of color, and the Holy Family is so beautiful!

It's absolutely wonderful. Why do the angels look like LOTR elves, though? I drew a more minimalist version of this scene. It's actually for a graphic novel I'm working on. Here's the link if you want to see it. [link]

Well, for me its because Tolkien's elves are one of my greatest experiences of having a creature higher than humans but so manifesting power and beauty in a way...well....that I suppose Tolkie could only do. 
Very cool! I'm trying to work on a graphic novel-ish kind of thing myself. It's a LOT of work! A lot more than one might first think!

Just took a second look at all your religious art and I noticed some LOTR dudes in here. hehe. Not that it's bad, it's just unique. I love seeing Christian artworks with elements of different cultures, like statues of Jesus or Mary with traditional costumes. It confirms once again that our faith is the Universal Faith.

I do too, it's very cool, and for exactly that same reason. It's funny you should mention that, but that topic came up recently, about Eskimo/African Nativity sets and such. Yay for universitality! One of the marks.

I don't like a lot of the traditional representations of Michael fighting Satan. Satan looks liek a pansy-garden snake and St. Michale looks like Peter Pan in Victorian-Romanesque armor.

My favorite portrayals of Christian stories come from a very old children's illustrated bible and those pictures were lavishly and realistically painted...I appreciated the realism of that art in terms of portraying anatomy.
On the other hand, I don't mind new interpretations of stories that don't demean the faith and are sincerely intended. So your elfish angels are really delightful

Yeah, exactly! I mean, in the book of Daniel, I believe it's Gabriel who is this huge, terrifying being, and people have a tendency to faint, worship (and then the angel has to go through the whole, "No I'm not God you silly Human, worship the ture God, I'm just his servant." speech) or just fall flat on their face in utter terror. Yeah....fat cherubs don't do that.

VERY nicely done! Love the way that Gabe, Raph, and Mike look pointy ears and all. They remind me much of the elves of Lothlorien in the LOTR. Sweet!
