This was a little master study I did while on vacation based on a painting by the Italian artist Pasquale Celommi (1851 - 1928). I had it only half finished for about a year where it was just sitting around on my bookshelf gathering dust, so I thought I'd try and get around to finishing it while I was on vacation. It's only a cropped portion of the painting, but it took me forever to finish despite how small it is. The feet and the boy's face were particularly troublesome, and I had liked the sky before until I went to paint the woman's head, and then I messed up everything and had to spend a few hours getting to sky to something remotely respectable-looking. The original is much more neutral in tone, but I made the sky a lot more dramatic and the waves a bit more white (you all know how I like contrast!). *sigh* I really have a love-hate relationship with acrylics. They drive me nuts, but I do like how acrylic paintings look when they're finished.

I don't know what the name of the original is, so I came up with my own title. She sort of reminds me of a 19th-century Italian-peasant version of Penelope though...
