I know you know those stray hairs cast shadows too, and left them out for more contrast.

First of all, thank you for posting the reference, the made things much easier! ^-^ 2. For photo realism. there are a bunch more colors within the portrait. Although I think its a good portrait. Its not photo realistic because some areas need to be darker. You have the lights pretty good, but much needed in the darks section. Example, the jaw line. You have the darks from the counter in the cheek down to the jaw, when there is actually some light separating those sections. As well as the line itself for the jaw and the chin, needs to be darker. I will say that the eyes are stunning. Great job! Remember what I mentioned in the last portrait about correcting? This is a great example. The teeth are way off centered. Its hard to see where the teeth should actually be since the watermark is across the mouth (of course, right?) So I would have 1. made the teeth the same size and centered them with the center of the lips. I love the lips and how they shine. you really captured that feature. I do think they are a little to rounded on the inside corner to the left. But thats just me. I would advise to not be so stuck on photo realism. I say this because it's more so boring for a viewer. I personally like it because I love portraits. But I think you should more so concentrate on making a style within the realism section. if that makes any sense. ^-^ you are doing great!
