Description I did some Fantastic Four sketches at Pittsburgh Comicon 2009 a short while back while sketching after-hours with some friends down in the hotel lobby. LOTS of fun, nice to hang out with them in that capacity.

Here's the ever-lovin' THING, one of my favorite characters in all of comics. Ben Grimm is easily one of the most iconic, original-looking characters in all superherodom and beyond, and for good reason-- in the wrong hands, he looks like a mess! I've always felt that if you can't draw a super awesome Thing, you shouldn't be drawing the book at all. He's the lynchpin, the rocky foundation of the FF, even though he has no blood family in the group. Ben Grimm is the man-- note that I didn't go for the way-too easy "Ben Grimm ROCKS" line. Yikes.

There ya go!

This one reminds me of Wieringo's a lot, but yours seems a little more tough.

I see the similarities, definitely. His Thing was completely iconic. I see some 'Ringo, some Arthur Adams, and a smidge of Byrne/Kirby. Then again, that's what I'm going for, so yeah.

I'll have to take your word on that. I've never followed FF. I've bought a few issues in Recent years when I see a good artist, but only for the art. Never read them. Keep in mind, I'm turning 23 soon. So its only more recently I've had money to start diversifying my comic interests. Especially older comics. As a kid in the 90s, it was hell following Spider-Man and X-Men on my pocket money. Every storyline crossing over here there and everywhere, you couldn't afford to find out about some the other books. I'm learning more now as an adult.

You have time, you're still quite young (I say, not even 30 yet myself). Have fun! There's some great stuff out there. You have any questions on what's good, feel free to ask.

Hey, you're a young gun too!

Feel free to suggest anything you feel is valuable. The only thing I ask is you give a reason. I find it hard to want something when the person recommending has not explain what makes them like it or think its worthy of study.

If you sell me, its likely I'll listen.

You know I'm a big fan of your take on Ol' Blue Eyes.

Thanks, man-- you realize I get asked at least once a week if that piece I did of Thor and Thing is available for sale or as a print? The people have spoken-- I need to draw more rocky people and Norsemen with hammers.
