Description Here's a bizarre choice for me that came MORE from wanting to draw something slightly DIFFERENT than a HUGE love for a character... Especially since I've only read probably 4 comics with Pitt in it. Out of what-- 7 total appearances ever? Yeesh.

I came across the character for the first time in Cyberforce #2-- or 3 (or 4, I honestly don't remember). He appeared in the following issue as well, and I loved how he looked. He was basically an 80s hard rocker Hulk without a nose and long, pointy fingernails like the X-Men's Lady Deathstrike.

Not the most original character, but Dale Keown's rendering has won me over on more than one project in the past. He's STILL in my top 3 artists ever to render the Hulk. Keown's finely-hatched lines and interesting caricature-esque expressions really caught my eye-- and while researching the character for this piece, it won me over AGAIN. It's one of the very few artists' works I loved in the 90s that I love as much if not more today.

Tossed in the kid as well-- it just NEEDED it, I think. Kind of like drawing in Ms. Lion in the Spider-Friends piece. Enjoy.

Pitt is the greatest! RIPPER likes Badrock and Fuji too! Really good drawing by the way!

Awesome job on this. Pitt is visually a very interesting character. I remember being blown away by the comic when it first came out and then getting really frustrated at the lack of a proper schedule. Keown is a great artist though. And I agree about the notion that he is one of the best Hulk artists to date.

I'd like to try my hand at inking this at some point if that's cool with you.

Same here! I think the book would have been legendary had it come out more regularly.

No problem! Just contact me ([link] )
with which pieces you wanna ink and I'll "yousendit.com" the hi res files over.

Thanks! Um, missy? Wait-- messy, okay, I gotcha. Cool, cool! Very nice-- thanks again! Yeah, I do a crude underdrawing on a separate sheet of paper in red pencil then lightbox it to keep it as clean as possible.

I'll give Dale Keown this, he rock-n-rolled with the jim lee-hatchism...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thejeremydale In reply to jhames34 [2007-02-26 22:38:52 +0000 UTC]

Agreed-- he knew HOW to crosshatch, that's the difference. Whereas Jim's hatching was sometimes just thrown on, Dale Keown MASTERED it.

I think jim lee sometimes missed with the cross hatching, but not nearly as badly as the army of his clones did...Lee still did good enough to get my respect...and he created a much larger library than Dale, as well...I think that Richard Pace was drawing PITT when it was last being published, even...

Yeah-- I tried to stay away from that, see if I could keep it iconic without the giant teeth gritting.

Thanks!

great job on the detailing and rendering. i dig the way pitt breaks the frame in the background. one small crit: the kid's right arm looks like its turned at an odd angle.

thejeremydale In reply to korubin [2007-02-26 18:21:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, the hand is doing something I didn't define well enough in the final rendering. I had a pre-drawing in red pencil that looked good, but I messed it up in the final pencils. Oh well.
