Overall
Vision
Originality
Technique
Impact
I like this photo. First, the bad stuff. This sort of scene is common, so I gave it only 3 stars for originality. Similarly for vision - though to be honest, I'm not quite sure what "vision" means. These lower ratings can't be helped, I think - the notion of bleak forests isn't new. Still, that doesn't mean anyone should avoid shooting them. It just means that originality isn't going to be high on the list.
The technique is good - better than average in my opinion. So is the impact. It depicts a bleak scene, as I'm sure was intended; that part is clear. What is more subtle is the feeling that there's nowhere to go - the way is blocked by the branches, and there is no path. That, to me, adds to the bleakness.
The only thing bleaker that I could think of would be a path that just ends abruptly, as though cut off. But finding something like that is difficult.
Overall I like this photo enough to add it to my favorites.

What I see here is apparently what you saw. Β A heart. Β I still see images in clouds, though, so...
Like it.

This looks like an amazing place.
I'd visit here, often.
Perhaps I'd find you dwelling here as well!

that would be me.

I ended up with an entirely different take on this
photo. Initially, I found it a good genre photo (as in baruch60610's critique), but Β given
your range of interests, I think you had something else in mind.
After I browsed through your gallery, I realized this photo is actually a narrative photo.
It's a Gothic vampire story:
The title may be typical of a forestscape photo, but in the Gothic context it is not only
the "heart" of the forest (as in "Heart of Darkness"), but symbolized by the "heart"
formed by the inverted triangle in the middle of the composition. The pale tree trunk
in the background bisects this heart -- like a stake driven through a vampire's heart.
The composition lines then take us down to the black rectangle in the lower right,
which is reminiscent of a grave pit or a coffin. Coincidentally, the pale tree trunk and
the foreground branch form a cross (which vampires fear, but which also marks a grave).
There's also an interesting wordplay in the photo, since the cross is formed by
part of the "heart."
"Cross my heart."
The rest of the rhyme (a childhood oath with Catholic and Masonic undertones) is
"And hope to die. Stick a needle in my eye."
Here the photo incorporates the viewer -- the stake in the heart is also the needle
in the viewer's eye. It's at that point that I realized that the upper part of the
intertwined branches forms the two curves at the top of a heart shape. That "stake"
more accurately goes between the viewer's eyes, since those same same two
curves (because of the tonality) now become reminiscent of the occular orbits of
a skull.Β

I "read" photos as part of my own project (and as a kind
of meditative practice). You really should take more landscape
photos and expand your genres. That picture of the black
cat (13) is also amazing. The first commenter took the subject
to be the cat, but it's much more complex. You tend to have
an integrated theme running through your compositions that
include language (and you probably do the final "composition"
unconsciously, which suggests you naturally apply an intuitive
"flow" like many of the professional photographers I know).Β
Have a great New Year.Β Β

Try to get it backlit.Β The light reflects off the fog, making it more evident.Β And of course, if you have a dark background that helps enormously.

Great photo! I like the use of depth of field, and the subtle heart shape the branches make.

No criticism from me, very nice to see a landscape in black and white at such a large aperture. It works very well.

Somehow this looks like a mirror effect to me, like it's the same image on both sides of the composition; it takes a really close look to recognize it's not. I think it's the sapling in the very middle that creates that illusion. Otherwise, the picture does capture a nice, sort of stark and creepy sensation.
