Here's a work in progress of the Last Elite commission for my mate Andrewhere's what i got so far... i should have more done 2morz..
doin the flats for this was a btich.. so much colours.. haha.. [flats can't be seen in this preview.. obviously]
this is what i always do under the 'cut-style' highlights..

Looks fantabulous yo. So just so's I understand you're doing the greys for shadows and then you plant colors over this to give the rendering prior to colors?

these aren't really greays.. more like a muted purple/blue... this is just one layer above the flats [which aren't visible in this pic] now above these shades will go the highlights [obviously.. ehe]

The costume is fantastic. The pose is super dynamic as always man! 
So, you're working out the tonal work in gray-scale and then multiplying that over the flat color shapes? I've got your color tute on my desktop, but this really helps clarify what it says. Sorry I'm kinda thick at times.

well..
i don't work in gray-scale. i shade on one layer above the flats (w/ like a dark purple or sumfin) .. on a multiply like you just said.. then once this is done.. i then do the highlights w/ the cut-style method.. 2ndary lighting is also the cut style too
it's all in that tute.. but i';m sure this'll clarify it more..
