Description SINCE THERE ARE SO MANY FAVS AND STUFF ON THIS I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE HERE/AHEAD OF TIME FOR THE LOVE ON THIS STAMP!! TOO MANY PEOPLE TO THANK INDIVIDUALLY.

So I made this because I am mostly a writer. I prefer to design and make worlds with words rather than with paper [although when I feel like drawing I do draw and upload things].

Anyway, I just do not think Deviantart appreciates writers as much or even recognizes many as artists. Well it takes talent to write decently like it does to draw. I know it takes equal imagination so in my opinion Art is art, which is expression.

There is a reason Deviantart has a literature section for the category choices people. WRITERS ARE ARTISTS TOO!

FREE TO USE. I AM ALWAYS CURIOUS THOUGH HOW MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY USE MY STAMP. IF YOU USE IT ON YOUR PROFILE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN. I THINK IT'S NEAT SEEING MY STAMP PLACES

I just wish there was a safegaurd on DA for literature, like we can put watermarks to our drawings but we can't to our words. Whole stories could quite easily be copied and pasted I fear.

That's terrible. I'm so sorry that something like that happened to you. I must say, Tumblr isn't a very nice place from what I've seen of it. I think the entire internet as a whole is toxic. Please don't be discouraged from writing though, remeber that you don't have to post it here. Creating can be a really positive thing.

Lol this is so true. Writers are artists but writing just happens to be one of the least visual of the art forms, and the most tedious to complete.

so very true! as someone that both draws and writes i have to say that writing requires more effort than drawing in my opinion. so it's sad when writers don't get more attention.

artists are supposed to have a style that defines them and writers have that too. Writers just use words instead of brushes.

DistinguishedPhysics In reply to Rika24 [2013-05-24 03:55:17 +0000 UTC]

In my opinion, writing is more powerful than painting.
A good painting can make you think for an hour.
But a good book can make you think for a lifetime.

It's sad how people don't know all the different kinds of art in this world, I'll try to name the few kinds of art that come to my mind : visual, literature, music, dancing, architecture, interior design, fashion, video games (contains music, visual art, and usually story) photography, acting... etc.

I'm both a Visual Artist and a Writer. I draw more, but really, I make stories in my head as much as I draw (don't let my gallery fool you).
I think the problem is that people think "artist" means a visual artist. But boy, are they wrong.
"An artist is a person engaged in one or more of any of a broad spectrum of activities related to creating art, practicing the arts, and/or demonstrating an art." - Wikipedia
"1. One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts." - The Free Dictionary

According to the Wikipedia Definition: Being an artist is one who practices the arts, and/or demonstrating it. Now, let's get to the real definition of the arts.

"The arts are a vast subdivision of culture, composed of many endeavors (or artforms) united by their employment of the human creative impulse. The term implies a broader range of disciplines than "art", which in modern usage usually refers only to the visual arts. The other major constituents of the arts are the literary arts, more often called literature – including poetry, novels and short stories, among others – and the performing arts, among them music, dance, magic, theatre, opera and film. Literary arts and creative writing are actually interchangeable terms. These divisions are by no means absolute as there are artforms which combine a visual element with performance (e.g. film) and the written word (e.g. comics). This list is by no means comprehensive, but only meant to introduce the concept of the arts." - Wikipedia

So Art is a big thing. It is not just a painting, or a sketch. It can be a novel, a dance, a song, a performance (In fact, every art form is a sort of performance). Heck, acting is one of the arts as well! (And it is why actors and actresses, and singers are called "Artists" too.)

So anyone who practices any of these, is an artist. So all writers are artists! But not all artists are writers.

It's all a big happy art family tree!

I feel the same way. I had a similar issues when I went to a summer program at the University of the Arts when I was in high school. I went for the writing program and at some points it was like they didn't know what to do with the writers as compared to the music, visual, or performing arts kids.

When it comes to stories you have to actually click onto them and spend a good 3 - 10 minutes reading them. With artwork and photos you get a good idea from the thumbnail, and you can examine it much more quickly.

It's a shame but that's how the art business works.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheBloodskins In reply to Blossomforth [2012-05-03 02:02:10 +0000 UTC]

It is a crime and a shame. I was always taught anything worth having takes work. I suppose that 3-10 minutes is supposed to be worth it vs the visual which goes as quickly as it came. I find stories stick with me years and pictures I tend to forget, depending.
