This is the first drawing based on winning moodboards from my contest, Mauricio-Psy ’s “jungle princess” board!

This is coming along really well! I got the skin right on the first try this time, I’ve learned I need to just pick some colors I like and go for it! I use the reference as a lighting guide, but not for color.

The ref I’m using has box braids, which I was originally thinking of doing, but I just really hate drawing braids and it wasn’t looking right. And, I really wanted a straightened look at the bottom of the hair, so I decided to go for undone dreads instead. I’m so glad I did, they looked awesome immediately and are SO fun to color!

I gotta say, once I had the skin down and was ready to start the hair, I almost decided to do black hair instead. With just the skin colored, she looked SO much like she could be the daughter of Tzekel-Kan and I wanted to lean into that so bad…but since kinda the point of this one was to do green hair, I stuck with that and it definitely did reduce that vibe for her :/
She still looks pretty epic though and I’m still leaning towards naming her something based on his name…dunno
