I know people will probably not like this picture as much as one of a beautiful model or even one of themselves (how vain
). Regardless, I decided to upload this because I really want to share my experience when shooting this photo. Because although people might not know who the little boy is, or be aware of the social situation here in the Philippines, this photo does stand for something. When I went to the Payatas dump, I was exposed to things my spoiled butt will not soon forget, probably not ever. It makes me glad to be where I am right now.

He's adorable, and the emotion in his eyes is just so strong... It makes me sad though I don't even know this boy's situation or anything about him.

i want to go to one of these countries sometime and take pictures like that of the people who live in poverty to show the world this stuff too. its really sad. but it is good that people like us would take beautiful pictures like this.!

powerful picture. it's a shame that people don't see what's right in their own community. sometimes it's easier to see from the opposite side of the world than right next door. keep on using photography to try and open people's eyes, if even one person sees more clearly it will be worth it.

I always love pictures like this...but for me, pics like these works well in sepia or B&W....it captures the feel of the surrounding...but to each its own.

I'll be going to Payatas every Saturday of my sophomore year to build houses for the people there. I'm sure it will be an eye-opening experience for me too.
Seeing pictures of children in poverty are always so moving because it's really tragic that they have to grow up in such a difficult environment...I find it so admirable that you're so nationalistic dude!

Yeah...but the thing is..the people we are trying to help just think we are "just meddling"..aghh..I could write a really long essay on the good and the bad...but that would take too long.
